Aim:
Adulteration of

Apparatus Required:
Test-tube, water, turmeric powder, test tube holder, Conc. HCL.

Procedure:
Add a pinch of turmeric powder to a test tube, add a few drops of strong Hydrochloric acid.
Shake it well. If the solution turns magenta colour it indicates that there’s a strong presence
of Metanil.
These are detected as follows:

Observation:
Appearance of magenta colour.

Aim:
To detect the presence of adulterants in mustard seeds.

Apparatus Required:
Test-water, mustard seeds , glass beaker.

Procedure:
Adulteration of red lead salts in chili powder:

take a small number of mustard seeds on a glass beaker. Now closely


observe the surface of the mustard.

Observation:
Adulteration of mustard seeds leads to:
The unadulterated mustard seeds will have smooth outer surface while the adulterated mustard
wil have rough and grainy outer surface.
