Starter 5/10 mins:   

To begin, sing and get the kids familiar with the spring seasons, “The
Weather – Science for Kids | @PrimaryWorld”

Main teaching phase 15/20 mins:

 Start the lesson with a brief recap of the previous topics regarding
the different types of seasons.
 Highlight that today’s lesson will be all about the different kinds of
weather.
 Begin the main topic by raising questions regarding the video they
watched. Explain that this discussion and STEM activity will provide
them with additional information on various types of weather
related to the English topic.
 Take the children outside and let them observe the weather for a
minute or two. Ask these questions as a key starting point for a
deeper discussion about the main topic, different types of weather.

- Can someone describe me the weather you saw outside?

- How do you feel about the weather today?
- Is there a sun?
- Is it cloudy?
- Do you think it will rain today?

 Explain the definition of weather, which refers to the appearance

of the sky and air outside, such as sunny, rainy, cloudy, windy, and
snowy. Discuss the following as part of the kids' recognition of
different types of weather:

Sunny day – the sun shines brightly, the sky is blue and the clouds are
few. Things around you look dry and it feels hot.

Rainy day – the air is cool and rain falls continuously from the sky.
Everything gets wet and it is cold.

Windy day – the air moves fast and the wind blows strongly but no rain.

Cloudy day – the sun is hiding when it’s cloudy, the sky and the sun are
covered by clouds. You will see a lot of clouds and it’s not hot.

Snowy day – there were hardly any traces of sun. The snow falls in all
directions, it gets difficult to see things well and it’s very cold.

Independent/group activities 20/25 minutes:

- Weather STEM Activity: Rain Cloud in a Jar – you will need a jar, water,
shaving cream, a dropper or pipette and food colouring.

Instructions:
- Fill the jar about ¾ full with water
- Completely cover the surface of the water with shaving foam.
The shaving foam represents a cloud
- Drip a few drops of water over the shaving foam using a pipette
- Drop food colouring over the shaving foam with a pipette
- Watch the food colouring fall to the bottom of the jar

Extension task: clouds form when water vapour rises and cools back into
water droplets to form clouds. When a rain cloud reaches a certain mass,
the water needs to escape and so breaks through the cloud to fall as rain.

Plenary (s) 5/10 mins:

Board Identification Activity: show different kinds of weather and ask kids
to identify them.

kinesthetics

Additional adults: TA to assist with supervision Learning outcomes: Students will be able to recognize the
different kinds of weather and understand how the rain forms.

Starter 5/10 mins:   

To begin let the kids watch and sing the “How's the Weather Song by
Maple Leaf Learning” – this song covers the five different kinds of weather
(sunny, rainy, cloudy, windy and snowy)

Main teaching phase 15/20 mins:

 Begin the lesson with a brief recap of yesterday's topic. Ask
questions related to the previous discussion and how it could be
related to today's lesson.
 Start the main discussion by highlighting the things they could
enjoy during the five different kinds of weather. (PPT Presentation)
This will give the kids deeper understanding of the different kinds
of weather.
- Can you play outside when it’s sunny?
- What games do you usually play outside on a sunny day?
- What clothes can you wear during sunny, rainy, cloudy, windy,
and snowy days?
- Why is it so easy to get the washed clothes dry during a sunny
day?
- What things you should have when it’s raining outside?
- Do you know that playing kites is best during windy days? Why
do you think so?
- Can you still play outside during snowy days?

Independent/group activities 20/25 minutes:

Have a quick discussion about how the rain forms by showing a simple water
cycle activity. This will give kids an impression of how the rain forms during
sunny days.
- Items needed: Ziploc bag, tape, blue food colouring (optional),
marker, water (could be warm)
- Draw water, a cloud, and a sun on the Ziploc bag with a marker
- Add a small amount of water to the bad without getting the
sides wet
- Add a few drops of blue food colouring to the water (optional)
- Hang in a sunny place for some time or use warm water for fast
results
- After some time or when heavy condensation appears on the
bag, remove the bag and allow students to observe. Tap the bag,
if necessary, to make the water droplets fall
- Let the kids imagine that the water is the sea, and due to the
hot temperature caused by the sun, it evaporates and
condenses. That's when the rain forms and the water will return
to the sea. This is why it’s called the water cycle.

Plenary (s) 5/10 mins: Question and answer activity – to observe kids
understanding ask these questions:
1. When the weather is _______, I play my kite.
2. When the weather is _______, I use my raincoat.
3. When the weather is _______, I wear thin clothes.
4. When the weather is _______, the sky and sun are covered by
clouds.
5. When the weather is _______, it feels very cold and I can make a
snowman.

can partake in during these times, and gain knowledge about the
