Start the lesson with a brief recap of the previous topics regarding
the different types of seasons.
Highlight that today’s lesson will be all about the different kinds of
weather.
Begin the main topic by raising questions regarding the video they
watched. Explain that this discussion and STEM activity will provide
them with additional information on various types of weather
related to the English topic.
Take the children outside and let them observe the weather for a
minute or two. Ask these questions as a key starting point for a
deeper discussion about the main topic, different types of weather.
Sunny day – the sun shines brightly, the sky is blue and the clouds are
few. Things around you look dry and it feels hot.
Rainy day – the air is cool and rain falls continuously from the sky.
Everything gets wet and it is cold.
Windy day – the air moves fast and the wind blows strongly but no rain.
Cloudy day – the sun is hiding when it’s cloudy, the sky and the sun are
covered by clouds. You will see a lot of clouds and it’s not hot.
Snowy day – there were hardly any traces of sun. The snow falls in all
directions, it gets difficult to see things well and it’s very cold.
Instructions:
- Fill the jar about ¾ full with water
- Completely cover the surface of the water with shaving foam.
The shaving foam represents a cloud
- Drip a few drops of water over the shaving foam using a pipette
- Drop food colouring over the shaving foam with a pipette
- Watch the food colouring fall to the bottom of the jar
Extension task: clouds form when water vapour rises and cools back into
water droplets to form clouds. When a rain cloud reaches a certain mass,
the water needs to escape and so breaks through the cloud to fall as rain.
Resources: ppt, a jar, water, shaving cream, a dropper or pipette and food Next lesson:
colouring, whiteboard, whiteboard marker, etc.
