This document defines various aviation terms related to airspace, approaches, navigation aids, and flight operations. Some key terms include:
- Military Terminal Control Area (MTCA) which is controlled airspace for military aircraft with special procedures.
- Minimum Descent Altitude (MDA) which is the lowest altitude for a non-precision instrument approach.
- Minimum Enroute IFR Altitude (MEA) which is the lowest safe altitude between fixes on airways.
- Minimums/Minima which are weather requirements for particular operations.
- Navigational Aid/Navaid which provides guidance or position information to aircraft.

dimensions designed to serve arriving, departing and enroute aircraft and within which special procedures and exemptions exist for military aircraft. Minimum Crossing Altitude (MCA). The lowest altitude at certain fixes at which an aircraft must cross. Minimum Descent Altitude (MDA). A specified height referenced to sea level for a nonprecision approach below which descent must not be made until the required visual reference to continue the approach to land has been established. Minimum Enroute IFR Altitude (MEA). The lowest altitude above sea level between specified fixes on airways or air routes at which acceptable signal coverage is received and which meets the obstruction clearance requirements. Minimum Obstruction Clearance Altitude (MOCA). That altitude in effect between fixes on a VHF/UHF airway which meets the obstruction clearance requirements for the route segment. Minimum Reception Altitude (MRA). At a specific VHF/UHF intersection, the lowest altitude above sea level at which acceptable navigation signal coverage is received to determine the intersection. Minimum Sink Speed. The airspeed that gives, with no power, minimum sink. Minimums/Minima. Weather condition requirements established for a particular operation or type of operation. Mode. The letter or number assigned to a specific pulse spacing of radio signals transmitted and received by ground interrogator and airborne transponders. Mode C is used for altitude reporting. Mountainous Region. An area of defined lateral dimensions above which special rules concerning minimum IFR altitudes apply. Movement Area. That part of an aerodrome intended for the surface movement of aircraft, including manoeuvring areas and aprons. Navigational Aid/Navaid. Any visual or electronic device airborne or on the surface which provides point to point guidance information or position data to aircraft in flight. Never Exceed Speed. The maximum speed at which the airplane can be operated in smooth air. Night. The period of time when the centre of the sun’s disc is more than 6 degrees below the horizon or the period of time commencing one half hour after sunset and ending one half hour before sunrise, in any place where the sun rises and sets daily. Night VFR. A flight conducted in accordance with VFR during hours of night. Nondirectional Beacon (NDB). An L/MF radio beacon transmitting non directional signals whereby the pilot of an aircraft equipped with ADF can determine his bearing to or from the radio beacon and “home” on or track to or from the station. Nonprecision Approach Procedure. A standard instrument approach procedure in which no electronic guide path is provided. NORDO. Aircraft in which no radio equipment is installed. Normal Operating Limit Speed. The maximum safe speed at which the airplane should be operated; the cruise speed for which it was designed. Northern Domestic Airspace (NDA). Ail airspace within the Canadian Domestic Airspace that lies north of a line that, specifically defined by regulation, begins at the Alaska/Canada border on the Arctic Ocean and, more or less, extends southward through Yellowknife to Churchill and thence northeast to Frobisher and the Atlantic Ocean.
