Test 1 LEFT TURN

The rider is required to complete a right shoulder head check before moving away from a starting T and ride along the test range and make a left turn through a 90 degree set of painted lines without allowing either of the motorcycles tyres to touch any of the lines. Demerit points will be incurred if either or both tyres touch any part of the line/s. You will also incur points for placing a foot or feet onto the ground.

Test 2 STOP IN THE BOX

After completing the 90 degree turn, the rider is required to make a left turn, continue down the test range and bring the motorcycle to a smooth non-skidding stop, so the contact patch of the front tyre, the part that touches the ground, is positioned inside the painted box. You will incur demerit points if you skid either wheel during the stopping sequence or the front tyre is outside the box or positioned on any part of the painted lines.

Note: As Test 1 and 2 are done together, you will also incur points if you fail to complete the head-check before moving away from the starting T.

Test 3 CONE WEAVE

From the starting T, near the stop box, complete a right shoulder head-check and move off, riding to the left of the first cone and sequentially weaving right, left, right, left through all 5 offset cones. You will incur demerit points if you touch any of the cones, miss or skip a cone, or place your foot or feet on the ground after leaving the starting T.

Test 4 U TURN
Immediately following the cone weave, the rider continues around the test range, towards the 6.1 metre wide U turn box. The rider is then required to make a clockwise U turn inside the box. Demerit points will be incurred if any part of either tyre of the motorcycle touches any part of the painted lines and/or the rider places a foot or feet on the ground during the turning sequence.

NOTE: As Test 3 and 4 are done together, you will also incur points if you fail to complete the head-check before moving away from the starting T.

Test 5 QUICK STOP

From the starting T the rider is required to complete a right shoulder head-check before moving away and accelerating the motorcycle to a speed of between 20 and 25 km/h. The rider is required to maintain that speed whilst travelling between the blue and the yellow cones and when the front leading edge of the front tyre reaches the yellow cones and the line painted between them, the rider is required to brake and bring the motorcycle to a complete stop, as quickly and as safely as possible. Once stopped, do not move the motorcycle either forwards or backwards. The Testing Officer will then correlate the speed of the motorcycle, as recorded by a speed indicator, against your braking distance. This will determine the level of braking efficiency achieved during this part of the test.

You will incur demerit points if you fail to complete the head-check before moving away from the starting T and/or you have exceeded your maximum allowable braking distance. If you brake too early and/or you are under-speed, the Testing Officer may, in some circumstances, require you to repeat this portion of the test. You will not incur demerit points for skidding either wheel during this part of the test. For information, the maximum allowable stopping distances from nominated speeds are as follows: 20 km/h = 2.8 metres 21 km/h = 3.0 metres 22 km/h = 3.2 metres 23 km/h = 3.6 metres 24 km/h = 3.8 metres 26 km/h = 4.4 metres 27 km/h = 4.8 metres 28 km/h = 5.0 metres 29 km/h = 5.6 metres 30 km/h = 5.8 metres

25 km/h = 4.0 metres

NOTE 1: Because you are required to brake from the front leading edge of the front tyre, your stopping distance is measured to the same point not the front tyres contact patch. NOTE 2: The instructions prior to this test will be to accelerate to a speed of between 20 and 25 km/h. A valid test is any speed above 20 km/h however, if you exceed 30 km/h, the maximum allowable stopping distance remains the same as if you were travelling at 30 km/h.

Test 6 OBSTACLE TURN

From the same starting T as the braking, the rider is required to again complete a right should head-check and accelerate to a speed of between 20 and 25km/h. Maintain that speed between the blue and yellow cones and when the front of the front tyre passes through the yellow cones, the rider is required to turn to the left or right, to avoid hitting the 2 half tennis balls and the imaginary line between them. Once avoiding the obstacle, turn back into the centre and ride out the exit lane between the other 4 half tennis balls. The rider must also avoid running over the blue painted lines positioned at the extremities of the test area.

Demerit points will be incurred for failing to complete the head-check before moving away from the starting T. Failure of the entire test will result if either or both of the tyres touch any part of the obstacles, including the exit lane markers. You will also fail if you go in the incorrect direction by failing to follow the prior instructions given by the Testing Officer. The Testing Officer will tell you in advance which way to turn. If you are under-speed on your first attempt, in certain circumstances, the Testing Officer may request that this component of the test. you repeat

Test 7 HEAD CHECKS

As already indicated, you will incur demerit points during the entire test for failing to complete a right shoulder headcheck before moving away from any of the 3 starting Ts painted on the test area.

Test 8 STALLING THE ENGINE

You will incur demerit points for stalling the engine of the motorcycle at any time from the time of the commencement of the test, to its conclusion.
