Chapter 1

Introduction

Social media use can also negatively affect teens,


distracting them, disrupting their sleep, and exposing them
to bullying, rumor spreading, unrealistic views of other
people’s lives and peer pressure. The risks might be
related to how much social media teens use.This research
will aware you of negative effects on social media
platforms to grade 10 student’s academic Performance.

Many students forget to do their homework because of


spending too much time on social media platforms,For
example they want to open Facebook for some update,but
as they swipe and click they will eventually spend the rest
of the day browsing the internet instead of doing their
homework.Another is instead of studying a
lesson/assignment they’ll just search the internet or
Google for answers in that way many students didn’t get to
understand the lesson at the end of the quarter.As time
pass by when they get asked about these lesson. They
can’t say anything because they don’t understand the
lesson at all

I.Background of the study:

For some reasons, many students have failed to


pass the subject Mathematics. It even got to the
point where many students have been
cheating(by searching the internet for
answers)Thus, parents and teachers need to
know one of the reasons why students feared
mathematics. Many students nowadays did not
memorize the multiplication table because of
calculator.

II. Statement of the Problem

This research will help the researcher determine the


Performance of grade 10 students in mathematics at
TINHS for 3rd Quarter of Sy:2022-2023

This study will answer the following questions:


1.What is the profile of the respondents in terms of:

1.1 name. 1.2 age 1.3 gender/sex


2.Does social media platforms affects your grade on
math? 75%of the students answered yes while 25%
of the students answered no
3.What is the mean grade of the students during the
3rd Quarter for S.Y.2022-2023?

III.Significance of the study

The researcher can be able to identify those


students who have been affected by using social
media platforms. This will reveal if the students have
low grades on math because it is hard or because of
too Much time using social media platforms.

A.Research design
This is quantitative research. Survey and
purposive sampling was used in conducting this
research

Grade 10 students at Talangan Integrated National
High School

The Data were taken from the students(by giving out
survey form and asking them some information

Conclusion

Out of the 50 grade 10 students that we have asked 7 of the


students answered no when we asked them if they have been
having a hard time understanding math while 43 of the
students answered yes.On the other Hand 22 of the students
answered no to the question: Does social media platforms
affects your grade in math? While 28 of the students
answered yes.At the end of our study we can conclude that a
lot of students are having a hard time understanding
mathematics because math is really hard for them.We can
also conclude that social media platforms affects their grade
in math it has a negative and positive effects on them.
Because of social media platforms such as messenger is an
instrument for them to ask their classmates for answers at a
certain math activity.It affects them in a good way by copying
their classmates answers it brings them a passing grade but
also the topic passed by leaving them without any
knowledge about it.
