GLOSSARY ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS Fátima Chater

NAME SYMBOL DEFINITION PICTURE

RESISTOR Is an electrical
component that limit
or regulates the flow
of electrical current
in an electric circuit

BATTERS A container
consisting of one
or more cells, in
which chemical
energy is
converted into
electricity and
used as a source
of power.
LED is an electronics
component that
emits light when
powered. It must
be wired
correctly to work,
as diodes only let
the current flow
in one direction.
WIRE is a piece of
copper that
allows us to
move electricity
from one point to
another

SWITCH is an electronic
component that
allows (or stops)
the electrical
current to pass.
When you stop
applying force to
a switch, they
stay in their
position, without
returning to their
original state.
VARIABLE is a resistor of
RESISTOR which the electric
resistance value
can be adjusted.
A variable
resistor is in
essence an
electro-mechanic
al transducer and
normally works
by sliding a
contact (wiper)
over a resistive
element.
BUZZER is an audio
signaling device.
It can be
mechanical,
electromechanic
al, or
piezoelectric.
GROUND Which can
absorb an
unlimited amount
of current without
changing its
potential.

CAPACITOR is device that we

can use it to
colect energy
from an energetic
camp. Its formed
by conductive
surfaces and
laminates wich
are plates.
AMMETER is used to
measure the
intensity of
electrical
currents.
Ammeters have
a very small
internal
resistance, below
1 ohm, so that its
presence does
not decrease the
current of the
circuit.

VOLTMETER is an instrument
used for
measuring
electric potential
difference
between two
points in an
electric circuit.
