The following laboratory data was obtained from a wastewater sample taken at the headworks to a treatment plant. All
of the tests were performed using a sample volume of 100 ml.

a) Sketch a solids partition mass balance model including: total solids, total volatile solids, total fixed solids, volatile
dissolved solids, volatile suspended solids, fixed suspended solids, fixed dissolved solids, total suspended solids,
and total dissolved solids. Include the concentrations in mg/L. Your answers should contain no more than 4
significant digits.
b) Report the concentration of the total dissolved solids and total suspended solids in the effluent after the water is
treated by the primary clarifier (1st sedimentation process), which removes 45% of turbidity and 35% of soluble
BOD.
