1/6: Exploratory Research

Now our intake has been completed, there’s a structure to follow in our

work (processes), and we have some early inputs (data) that we've

received directly from our decision-makers.

It's possible to say that we now have a high level understanding of how

success would look like (where to go first, and which sites).

Pre-Search

Exploratory Research (Go talk to Google, he knows!) - Anything we can’t

get from our intake. Spend 30min reviewing notes, and looking around

before jumping into finding candidates.

Filling in the gaps in our knowledge will help us understand

the size, and scope of our targeted talent market.

When researching the below 6 terms are the core ones to apply

1. Target companies

2. Similar job titles

3. Skills (Keywords)

4. Certifications

5. Schools

6. Associations / Groups and Conferences

Internet Research Principles:

“Search for what you imagine you will find”

- Irina Shamaeva

Indicators of success are our basic functional requirements.

Example: You find a SW Engineer but they may not say which
technologies they work with, still we can realize they work with a company
that typically uses certain stack meaning, that they most possibly use
them.

Based on the above example, think about how people may describe

themselves or be described by others.

When including advanced filters we are actually narrowing down to a

specific file, title, site.

In a nutshell, always follow our Search principle, think about which words

will be present on our final destination (website | file | list)

Add or exclude if too many false positives (OR | - )

Add or remove terms if the amount of results is too low.

Be conscious of the time spent, is it worth going through that

specific rabbit hole or should we move on to something different?
