(iv) Calculate the kinetic energy of a body of mass 0.2 kg and momentum 40 kg ms-1. [2]

(v) Mention the differences between heat capacity and specific heat capacity. [2]

(vi) A sound wave travelling in water has a wavelength 0.4 m. Is this wave audible in the
air? (The speed of sound in water = 1400 m s-1) [2]

(i) Mention the two advantages of the ring system of wiring. [2]

(ii) Draw the neat circuit diagram of the dual control switch to show the bulb in ON
position. [2]

(iii) Name two factors on which the internal resistance of a cell depends and state how
does it depend on the factors stated by you? [2]

(iv) Two resistors of 4 Ω and 6 Ω are connected in parallel. The combination is connected
across a 6 V battery of negligible resistance, Calculate:
(a) the total resistance of circuit, (b) the current through the battery [2]

(v) Write the fission reaction of 92U235 when bombarded with neutron. [2]

Question – 4

(i) The diagram in Figure shows the combination of two pulleys P1 and P2 used to lift up
a load W.
(a) State the kind of pulleys P1 and P2.
(b) State the function of the pulley P2.
(c) What effort E has to be applied at C to just raise the load W = 20 kgf ? Neglect both
the weight of the pulley P1 and the friction. [3]

(ii) The specific heat capacities of two liquids P and Q are 3.62 cal/g 0C and 2.50 cal/g 0C
respectively.
(a) By observing the magnitudes of P and Q which substance is considered as a bad
conductor of heat.
(b) Give reason for your answer.
(c) Among P and Q which substance is suitable for coolant. [3]

(iii) The angle of deviation (δ) vs angle of incidence (i) is plotted for a prism shown in the
curve below. Study the curve and determine the magnitude of

(i) A molten metal of mass 150 g is kept at its melting point at 800°C. When it is allowed to
freeze at the same temperature, it gives out 75,000 J of heat energy.

(a) What is the specific latent heat of the metal ?


(b) If the specific heat capacity of metal is 200 J kg-1 K-1, how much additional heat
energy will the metal give out in cooling to - 50 °C ? [3]

(ii) Copy the given equation given below and complete the following nuclear change. [3]

(iii) a) State two differences between energy and power.

(b) A man weighing 60 kgf climbs up a ladder of height 10 m in 15 minutes. Calculate


the increase in his potential energy and the power spent by him. Take 1 kgf = 10 N [4]

(i) (a) Name the principle on which a transformer works.
(b) What is the function of a step up transformer?
(c) Can a transformer work when it is connected to a d.c. source ? Give a reason. [3]

(ii) (a) Draw a neat labelled diagram of a.c generator.


(b) State the energy conversion takes place in the generator. [3]

(iii) The diagram below shows a cooling curve for 200 g of water. The heat is extracted at the
rate of 100 J/s. Answer the questions that follow: (a) Calculate specific heat capacity of
water. (b) Heat released in the region BC. [4]

(b) Infrared radiations are used for photography in fog.
(c) Why does the sky appear blue in colour? [3]

(ii) (a) Can the absolute refractive index of a medium be less than one ?
(b) A coin placed at the bottom of a beaker appears to be raised by 4.0 cm. If the
refractive index of water is 4/3, find the depth of the water in the beaker. [3]

(iii) (a) List the factors on which the magnetic field strength by a current carrying straight
conductor depends.
(b) State the rule which gives the direction of its magnetic field.
(c) Mention the pattern of magnetic field lines due to a straight current carrying
conductor. [4]

(i) A wire of resistance 3 ohm and length 10 cm is stretched to length 30 cm. Assuming that it
has a uniform cross section, what will be its new resistance? [3]

(ii) Where must an object be placed in front of a convex lens of focal length 20 cm to obtain a
real and four times magnified image ? Where will the image form? [3]

(iii) A lens forms a real, inverted and magnified,image of an object.


(a) Name the kind of lens.
(b) Draw a ray diagram to show the formation of the image. [4]

(i) (a) Name the part of the electromagnetic spectrum of wavelength 10 nm to 400 nm and
mention its one application.
(b) Name the lens which gives us a magnification of -1. [3]

(ii) (a) State two differences between the forced and resonant vibrations.
(b) State the condition for resonance to occur. [3]

(iii) For a science exhibition, two students A and B brought two similar exhibits. Both the
exhibits consist of a coil placed in the magnetic field. Student A rotates the coil and a
the bulb connected to it glows. Student B passes current through the coil and the coil
rotates.

(a) Name the phenomena involved with the exhibit of student A.


(b) State the principle based on which the exhibit of student B works.
(c) List the application of the above exhibits in daily life. [4]
