Solution:
Given: 2+4+6+… +2n for n =1, 2, …6
Sequence Formula: 2n
a1 = 2(1) = 2
a2 = 2(2) = 4
a3 = 2(3) = 6
a4 = 2(4) = 8
a5 = 2(5) = 10
a6 = 2(6) = 12

Sequence: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12
Sn = S 1 = 2
Sn = S2 = 2+4 = 6
Sn = S3 = 2+4+6 = 12
Sn = S4 = 2+4+6+8 = 20
Sn = S5 = 2+4+6+8+10 = 30
Sn = S6 = 2+4+6+8+10+12 = 42
Answer: 2 + 4 + 6 + 8 + 10 + 12 = 42

2. 1 + 3 + 7 +… +[2n – 1] for n=1, 2, …6

Solution:
Given: 1 + 3 + 7 +… +[2n – 1] for n=1, 2, …6
Sequence Formula: 2n – 1
a1 = 21 – 1 = 2 – 1 = 1
a2 = 22 – 1 = 4 – 1 = 3
a3 = 23 – 1 = 8 – 1 = 7
 a4 = 24 – 1 = 16 – 1 = 15
a5 = 25 – 1 = 32 – 1 = 31
a6 = 26 – 1 = 64 – 1 = 63

Sequence: 1, 3, 7, 15, 31, 63

Sn = S 1 = 1
Sn = S2 = 1+3 = 4
Sn = S3 = 1+3+7 = 11
Sn = S4 = 1+3+7+15 = 26
Sn = S5 = 1+3+7+15+31 = 57
Sn = S6 = 1+3+7+15+31+63 = 120
Answer: 1 + 3 + 7 + 15 + 31 + 63 = 120

C. Give the formula for the given sequence: 9, 12, 15, 18, 21,…

Solution:
The numbers in this sequence are written as:
9=3+6=1x3+6
12 = 6 + 6 = 2 x 3 + 6
15 = 9 + 6 = 3 x 3 + 6
18 = 12 + 6 = 4 x 3 + 6
21 = 15 + 6 = 5 x 3 + 6 and so on…

From this, we can write the formula for the sequence as: 3n+6 where n = 1, 2, 3 etc.

Formula for the nth term of an Arithmetic Sequence: an = a1 + (n-1) d where, n = number
of terms
a1 = first term
an = nth term (last term)
n = number of terms
d = common difference

an = a1 + (n-1) d
an = 9 + (n-1) 3
an = 9 + 3n – 3
an = 3n + 6
