2009 MEMENTO RIESLING

Varietal: Region: Riesling Marlborough

SERES IN ES TATE:
Hand-grown, hand-picked and handmade, Seresin wines have forged a reputation for individuality and complexity. Established in 1992 by filmmaker Michael Seresin, a combination of own vineyard selection, organic and bio-dynamic viticultural practices and subtle winemaking techniques have ensured Seresin's commitment to premium wines.

VINTAGE:
The wines from the 2009 vintage hold great promise. Extended periods of hot sunny weather over flowering and through the end of January were followed by a cool and wet February. This encouraged some botrytis in the earlier ripening varieties such as Chardonnay, but fortunately the run in to harvest was cool and dry which arrested the spread of disease. The cooler conditions in March pushed the harvest back a little, drawing out ripening whilst maintaining acid levels until the fruit reached its optimum ripeness. The result of this cooler extended vintage is that the wines are showing great poise, balancing a powerful core of fruit concentration with an elegant acidity.

VINEYARD:
All the fruit for this wine comes from seventeen year old vines from the Seresin Home Vineyard on the upper terraces surrounding the winery. The vineyard is made up of a variety of Waimakiriri type soils of alluvial origin with free-draining basalt pebbles. Our vines are all on narrow-row spacing which promotes competition and encourages a lighter crop on each vine. The Memento Riesling was hand-picked on April 2. CLONE: TK05209

VINIF ICATIO N:
The fruit was hand-sorted and then whole bunch pressed to retain purity of fruit characters. After pressing the juice was settled until it was crystal clear and then fermented at low temperatures until a perfect balance between sweetness and acidity was achieved. Alcohol: 10.0% pH: 2.91 TA: 8.6g/L Residual Sugar: 38g/L

WINEMAK ERS NOTES:

The nose exhibits floral and lime aromas with a hint of dried apricot. The palate is crisp with delicate flavours of honeysuckle, flint and citrus. This wine brings together the extremes of sweetness and acidity creating a long and harmonious finish. Drinking well now, but this wine has the potential to improve over the next five years.
