Diplomatic Briefing on the United States of

America’s Position on the Yemeni Civil War

For the Disposal of the United Nations Security Council meeting on the 11th of April, 2024
Written by Ambassador to the United Nations Security Council,r Christopher Joseph Lechner
The Ambassadorship of the United States of America recognises the current state of events in Yemen as being tragic. The
government, undoubtedly legitimate, has been fought against by the Houthi rebels for little practical cause. Yemen, being
the largest beneficiary of US aid, can be considered a great strategic and close partner in the United States’ Middle East
policy.

Regarding the United States’ relations to the Houthis, we initially listed them as a global terrorist organization, before
delisting them in 2021. We did this as a show of good faith, to prioritize getting aid to the Yemeni people. The Houthis
have taken advantage of the United States' care for its co-opted people, and have used the change in designation to fund its
operations, and, recently, to terrorize the world. It has recently been placed back on the US' list of terrorist organizations
due to their actions.

Regarding the current relevance of the Civil War, Houthis have taken violent action against international commerce,
shooting at vessels going through the Suez Canal. Vessels have chosen to go around Africa to avoid the Suez Canal. The
world, which is still not done recovering from the inflation of the last two years, is set to see an increase in global
inflation, as this route change has increased shipping costs by 2 to 3 times. In brief, the Houthis’ terrorism will greatly
affect inflation in all countries, if they are allowed to continue.

The United States is willing to engage in civil diplomacy with the terrorists, so as to prevent further civilian casualties,
however there are strict limits on our tolerance of demands, and if the Houthis cannot moderate their own wishes, then the
United States of America is fully capable and willing to ponder over alternative means of solving the issue. Considering
that this is a global problem, we believe that there is ample ability for the P5 to be able to come together and resolve the
situation with little tension. If no agreement can be reached, then, and only then, will the United States contemplate
bilateral negotiations and actions with the Yemeni government.

The ambassadorship of the United States of America would like to announce that all talk of the current war in Israel will
be greatly discouraged, and any operative clause which references that conflict will be vetoed, in the interest of keeping
focus on the real issue of the Yemeni Civil War.

God bless the Yemeni people, God bless the United Nations, and God bless the United States of America

Signed,

Christopher Joseph Lechner

Ambassador of the United States of America
