21 innovators, including 2 Indo American scientists: Subra Suresh and Ashok Gadgil, with
National Medal of Science (9) and National Medal of Technology and Innovation (12), the USA’s
highest Award for Science and Technology.

Mahsa Amini & Iranian women protest movement Won the 2023 Sakharov Prize
of European Parliament
On October 19, 2023, Roberta Metsola, President of European Parliament named Jina Mahsa
Amini and Iranian women protest movement as the winners of Sakharov Prize for Freedom
of Thought 2023 (Sakharov Prize), the European Union’s (EU) top human rights prize.
About Jina Amini:
i.Jina Mahsa Amini, the 22-year-old Kurdish Iranian woman, was arrested for allegedly
violating Iran’s mandatory hijab (headscarf ) law in September 2022. She died 3 days after
arrest.
Gujarat’s Dhordo featured among UNWTO's Best Tourism Villages 2023; MP’s Madla
selected for Upgrade Programme
On October 19, 2023, the Dhordo village in Kutch district of Gujarat, India named in the 3rd
edition of Best Tourism Villages 2023 list released by the United Nations World Tourism
Organization (UNWTO). While, Madla village from Madhya Pradesh's Panna district has been
picked for the UNWTO’s Best Tourism Villages Upgrade Programme.
✓ The announcement was made during the UNWTO General Assembly in Samarkand,
Uzbekistan. the Best Tourism Villages by UNWTO was launched in 2021 is part of the
UNWTO Tourism for Rural Development Programme which fosters development and

The Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare (DoP&PW) hosted the Anubhav Awards
2023 Ceremony at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on October 23.Dr. Jitendra Singh emphasized
various administrative initiatives that have been put in place, ensuring the timely
disbursement of pensionary benefits to retiring employees.These initiatives include: Pre-
Retirement Counselling workshops,Anubhav Awards,and Pension Adalat.
After evaluation, 4 individuals from 8 different ministries, departments, and organizations
were honored with Anubhav Awards, and 9 jury certificates were also awarded for the first
time to foster broader participation.
Army Chief Presents the President’s Colours to 3rd Battalion of Naga Regiment

2 Indian Cities joined the UNESCO Creative Cities Network: Kozhikode for Literature & Gwalior

On the occasion of World Cities Day (31 October 2023), 55 cities joined the United Nations
Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Creative Cities Network (UCCN).
The list featured 2 Indian Cities namely Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh) and Kozhikode (Kerala).

woman to win The Dhahan Prize.
CNS Adm R Hari Kumar Presented Maiden NIB to Cdr M Arun Chakravarthy
Admiral R Hari Kumar, Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) has presented the maiden ‘NIB’ (Navy’s
Intellectual Beacon) to Commander M Arun Chakravarthy, winner of Indian Navy’s Sardar KM
