THE RECRUITMENT AND SELECTION
PROCESS

• Employment planning and forecasting- determine the duties of the positions


to be held.
• Building a pool of candidates.
• Collect applications and conduct initial interviews.
• Use various selection techniques to select suitable candidates.
• Inform the relevant supervisor on selected candidates.
• Final selection through interviews with the supervisor and other relevant
parties.
WHAT IS RECRUITMENT?

• Recruitment is the
process of finding and
attracting suitably
qualified people to
apply for employment.
IMPORTANCE OF RECRUITMENT

• The quality of HR in an organization depends on the quality of


job applicants attracted.

• Recruitment relates to a set of HRM activities such as human


power planning, job analysis, selection and rewards
management.
PROCESS OF RECRUITMENT

1. Identify job vacancies (From HRP and Specific requests made by managers)

2. Ascertain job requirements (From job analysis information and manager’s comments)

3. Consider factors affecting R (Organizational policies, cost, time and others)

4. Prepare job application (Standard one or self-prepared)

5. Select the method (s) of R (Internal or external)

6. Implementation (Individuals apply and their applications are received)

7. Evaluation of R effort
INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL RECRUITMENT
METHODS

• Supply of inside candidates – whether/which current employees might be qualified for


the projected job opportunities.
• Manual systems and replacement charts, Computerized skills inventories,
Employee Referrals
• Re-hiring, Succession planning (Identify key needs, develop inside
candidates, assess and choose)

• Supply of outside candidates – Recruiting via the internet, advertising, employment


agencies, Pre applicants, Career fairs, Alumni associations

normally as a group, provide comprehensive

• On-the-job induction training – useful to develop


particular skills needed for the job performance
