This document outlines the assessment for the International Secondary Certificate Core Mathematics course. It is assessed through two 3-hour papers worth a total of 300 marks. Paper 1 covers topics like number and algebra, functions, sequences, finance, calculus, and linear programming. Paper 2 covers statistics and probability, coordinate geometry, measurement, trigonometry, and Euclidean geometry. Questions in both papers range from easier to more difficult and may cover any topic, rather than grouping questions by specific content area.

10. A. MEANS OF ASSESSMENT (GRADE 12)
Paper 1 3 hours [150]
Paper 2 3 hours [150]
300 marks
B. REQUIREMENTS
Included with the papers is a formula sheet.
MODULE 1: EXAMINATION PAPER I
Weighting of Content Areas
Description Marks
Number and Algebra 30
Functions 25 Sequences 25 Finance 20 Calculus 35 Linear Programming 15 TOTAL 150
*Trigonometric graphs will only be examined in Paper 2.
MODULE 2: EXAMINATION PAPER II
Weighting of Content Areas
Description Marks Statistics and Probability 30 Coordinate Geometry 25 Measurement 15 Trigonometry 40 Euclidean Geometry 40 TOTAL 150
Questions will be arranged roughly according to level of difficulty from easier
to more difficult through the full length of the paper rather than grouped into content focus questions that go from easy to more difficult within a specific content question, i.e. a simple stand-alone trigonometry question could be question 1, but there could be another stand-alone trigonometry question towards the end of the paper that assesses problem solving. This does not exclude a question with some sub-questions that address similar content at a similar level of difficulty.
