Hello BBE-Students!

Congratulations on getting into this program! The beginning can be a

little bit confusing, but don't worry, you will come to love the program,
just like we do.

Who are we? We are fellow BBE-students and part of the student
representation, ÖH WU, doing our best to support our fellow BBE-
students and improving our studies even further.

Since starting your studies can be quite overwhelming at first, we

decided to compose a collection of tricks and tools that helped us in the
past, to give you a bit of a head start.

Aside from that, if you have any concerns, questions or comments, feel
free to contact us or one of the instagram accounts linked below. :)

PS: We know this letter is not as exciting as getting a letter from Hogwards, but we tried!
First off:
A quick overview of the BBE-Structure:
The table below looks confusing? Dont worry, all you really need to know is that BBE
basically consists of 3 Phases:

Introductory and Orientation Phase: The first courses you will have to take in order to
take any of the other courses (except Quantitative Methods 1, which you should also take
right away).

The Main Program Phase: This is the phase where most of your courses you will take
are, some are only offered in the Winter semester, some only in the summer semester.

Specialisations: Here you can choose any of the Specialisations available for BBE you
are interested in (currently about 26, might change). Most are worth 20 ECTS, some are
worth 10 ECTS. Just make sure you finish specialisations worth 40 ECTS. You should still
get an overview of all specialisations available. Else you will find them all on the WU
website.

On the next page you will find the recommended order to take the courses, it shows the
most efficient way to plan your studys and most of us follow them after the program
manager explained it to us at the welcome days.
 Planning your studies:
While now, during the orientation phase, you dont need to plan
that much, start thinking about when you want to take which
specialisations and if you want to go abroad. Between
semester 2 & 3 you should start planning properly.
When the time comes we will hold a BBE 3rd

*Remember that Quantitive methods II is a

prequisite to Business Analytics I & II
 Quantitative Methods I:
For most students the hardest and most time-consuming course in the first
semester is Quantitative Methods I (short: QM I).
It mainly focuses on Maths, Statistics and Programming "R", which in later
courses will be used to make advanced statistical analysis. Make sure you take your
time and learn it properly.

Nonetheless, there is no need to worry, because it is still manageble especially if you

use some of the tools we used as well. So, if you find the subject challanging at the
beginning, take advatage of the ressources we listed below:

Derivative Calculator

the mathematical topics in QM I,
These two calculators should help you with as well as QM II.
most of the assignments you will get this
semester, just make sure you do not become
too dependant on them.
You might not always have access to them.
(E.g. during an exam, depends on the format)

"R"-Tutorials: "R"-Ressources:
Coursera Useful Functions
(Click Audit Course) Stackoverflow
Codecademy
Udemy Some basic functions, that
will help you get started.
While not having tried them all out
ourselves, these courses should give you a Stack Overflow is basically
base understanding of R. They are free of the reddit of R, you might
charge. find tips on how to approach
Your Profs might also provide you with problems in assignments
access to an "R" DataCamp course. here.

PS: Your QM Tutors are your help in need, so be nice to them!

 General Tips!
Connect with your fellow BBE Students.
Don't miss opportunities to meet others.

Sign up for your courses with the "Atomuhr". Its usually not
necessairy, since everyone will get a spot, only the course time
will differ, but it is a tradition at WU. ;)
Check your WU-Mails
regularly.

Don't underestimate the workload, the assignments

accumulate a lot faster than in high school. Check your
MyLearn!

Remember to re-register every semester.

You can book rooms for group work

Make the most of your studies by joining or studying at WU
extra-curricular activities, but within reason.

Do the little assignments well, they will make a big difference on

your grade.

Don't copy assignments, especially in QM or Tell the Prof or us if you think the course
Micro, otherwise you will regret it during format chosen is not appropriate.

For courses in which you have regular reading assignments

(like CCBE or sometimes the law courses), make sure you read
it once and review it before the lecture! There might be
quizzes, and if not it helps understanding the subject.
