WS - Inputs and Outputs (CH 1-4 Review)
As we head into the second semester of Math 10, let’s solve a few problems that you should be comfortable with.
These problems all directly relate to our new unit: Relations and Functions (Chapter 5).
Algebra Skills – Cumulative
1. Solve for y if 𝑥 = 2; 𝑦 = −3𝑥 + 10 2. Solve for y if 𝑥 = −3; 𝑦 = 2(𝑥 + 1) − 3
Measurement – Chapter 1
1. A circle has a radius of 30 cm. What is the area 2. A cone has a height of 5 cm and a radius of 4
of this circle, in square metres? cm. What is the surface area of the cone?
3. A triangle has an area of 20 𝑖𝑛2 and a base 4. A cylinder has a radius of 8 𝑐𝑚 and a surface
length of 5 𝑖𝑛. What is the height of this area of 200 𝑐𝑚2 . What is the height of this
triangle, in centimetres? object, to the nearest tenth of a centimetre?
Trigonometry – Chapter 2
5
1. Find x to the nearest tenth: sin(38°) = 𝑥 2. Find x to the nearest tenth:
4
3. Find 𝜃 to the nearest degree: cos(𝜃) = 7 4.
3. Write as a mixed radical: √720 4. A tree farmer used the formula 𝑉 = 0.5𝑑2 ℎ to
estimate the volume, V, in cubic metres, of a
tree with height h and mean trunk diameter d.
The height of a tree is 20 times its mean trunk
diameter. If the tree has a volume of 230 𝑚3,
what is the mean trunk diameter of the tree?
Which was your best unit? Which do you need to work on?
Within each unit, which were more difficult: questions 1+2 or questions 3+4? Why?
