11- ABM

LESSON PLAN
Subject: 21st Century Literature

Duration: 1 class periods


Objective:
- To introduce students to the rich culture of the Ilocano people.
- To help students understand the significance of Ilocano traditions, food, and
language.
Materials:
1. Map of the Philippines
2. Pictures of Ilocano landmarks, clothing, and food
3. Videos or audio clips of Ilocano music and dance
4. Ilocano words and phrases handout

Introduction to Ilocano Culture

1.Opening Activity: Begin by showing a map of the Philippines. Locate the Ilocos
Region and briefly discuss its geography. Ask students if they know anything
about the Ilocano people or culture.
2.Discussion: Share some key facts about the Ilocano culture, such as their
language, history, and traditions. Mention famous Ilocano figures like Ferdinand
Marcos. Encourage students to ask questions.
3.Visual Presentation: Show pictures of Ilocano landmarks, traditional clothing,
and food. Discuss the significance of each and how they relate to Ilocano
culture.
Language and Traditions

1. Language Lesson: Provide students with an Ilocano words and phrases


handout. Teach them basic greetings and phrases. Practice pronunciation
together.

2. Discussion : Talk about the importance of language in preserving culture.


Discuss how the Ilocano language is still spoken and celebrated today.

Food and Music

1. Cooking Demonstration (optional ): If possible, prepare a simple Ilocano


dish like “pinakbet” or “bagnet” in class or bring samples to share. Explain
the ingredients and preparation.
2. Music and Dance: Play videos or audio clips of Ilocano music and dance
performances. Discuss the role of music and dance in Ilocano celebrations
and traditions.
3. Class Discussion: Ask students to share their thoughts and what they’ve
learned about Ilocano culture throughout the lesson.
