worship the Sun God in the evening and said that he would have to do severe penance for 12
years. he listened to hem and worshiped the sun god for 12 years and one day the sun god got

temple is filled with light. It is believed that the Sun God is in heaven on a chariot. We travel by
riding and Konark temple is built in the shape of this chariot. A huge chariot is being pulled by
seven horses which has 24 wheels. The wheels of this chariot represent the 12 months of the
year and their special thing is that These are made exactly like a clock. There are a total of 16
spokes in each wheel, eight big and eight small. There is a difference of three hours in each big
spoke and the eight sections of these wheels represent the eight hours of the day. Today after
770 years People can also calculate the time accurately through these wheels made in the 13th
century by using the sun's rays.
