Quantitative Research Method: Pre-Post Test Analysis

Objective: To measure the effectiveness of formative assessment in enhancing

students' achievement in a specific subject.

Procedure:

1Selection of Participants: Randomly select a sample of students from different

classes or schools where formative assessment practices are actively implemented

2. Pre-Test Assessment: Administer a pre-test to assess the students' baseline

knowledge in the chosen subject before the introduction of formative assessment
strategies. Ensure that the pre-test is designed to align with the learning objectives of
the upcoming lessons.
3. Implementation of Formative Assessment: Over a specified period, introduce
formative assessment practices in the selected classrooms. This may include regular
quizzes, peer assessments, or feedback sessions.

4.Data Collection During Implementation: Collect data during the implementation

phase, including the frequency of formative assessments conducted, types of
assessments used, and any modifications made based on assessment results.

5 Post-Test Assessment: Administer a post-test after the completion of the formative

assessment period. The post-test should cover the same content as the pre-test and
align with the learning objectives.

6 Data Analysis:

1. Calculate the average pre-test and post-test scores for each group.
2. Use statistical measures, such as paired-samples t-tests, to analyze the significance
of score differences between the pre-test and post-test.

7 Expected Outcome: If formative assessment is effective, the post-test scores should

show a statistically significant improvement compared to the pre-test scores,
indicating enhanced student achievement in the subject.

Note: It's essential to control for external factors that may influence the results, and
the sample size should be sufficient to draw meaningful conclusions. Additionally,
obtaining consent from participants and ethical considerations should be prioritized
throughout the research process.

Example of Research Methodology: (quantitative )
Objective: To measure the effectiveness of formative assessment in enhancing
students' understanding of Ch#4 “Structure of an Atom” in Class VII at Army Public
School hyd cantt (Middle School ,Boys wing)

Procedure:

1 Selection of Participants:

1. Randomly select 20 Class VII students from Army Public School, where formative
assessment practices will be introduced.

2 Pretest Assessment:

1. Administer a pre-test(orally) to assess students' baseline understanding of immunity

and diseases. The test will cover topics aligned with the Class VII curriculum.

3 Implementation of Formative Assessment:

1. Introduce weekly quizzes and feedback sessions based on student performance

4 Data Collection During Implementation:

1. Document the frequency of formative assessments conducted in Class VII. Collect

data by providing AFL worksheet as a formative assessments used and any
adjustments made to teaching based on assessment outcomes.

5 Post-Test Assessment:

1. After one weeks of implementing formative assessment strategies, administer a

post-tes(2nd Checkpoint ) to the same students , covering the same concept as the
pre-test.

6 Data Analysis:

1. Calculate the average pre-test and post-test scores for Class VII.
2. Use paired-samples t-tests to determine if there is a statistically significant
difference in the post-test scores compared to the pre-test scores for Class VII.

7 Expected Outcome: If formative assessment is effective, the post-test scores in

Class VII at Army Public School should show a statistically significant improvement
compared to the pre-test scores, indicating enhanced understanding the Atomic
Structure
