FACTOR THEOREM

Objectives:

By the end of the lesson, the students should able to:

1. Understand the significant of Factor Theorem in the context of given polynomial
expression;
2. Use the Factor Theorem to determne if ( x-r) is a factor of a given polynomials;
3. Develop patience, problem- solving skills, and resilience when solving exercises
in factor theorem.

Activity 1: DECODE MY CODE

Evaluate the polynomial at the given values of x. Next, determine the letter that
matches your answer. When you are done, you will be able to decode the
message.
A. P(x) = x3 + x 2 + x + 3 B. P(x) = x4- 4x3 – 7x2 + 22x + 18
x -2 -1 0 1 2 x -2 -1 0 1 5
P(x) 2 17 P(x) -6 18 78
Message O A Message S I N

A. 17 C. -3 E. 5 I. 18 M. 3 N. 78 O. 2 O.30 P. 6 R. 0 S. -6
T.23

Activity 2: Excercise: Identifying Factors

Determinet he following factor of the given polynomial using Factor Theorem.

1. f(x)= (2x3 – 9x2 + 2x + 8) ; ( x-4)

2. g(x)= (x4 - x3 - 2x2 – 4x -4) ; ( x + 1)

3. h(x)= (5x3 – 12x2 – 6x + 18) ; ( x- 3)

Activity 3 : Pair Activity: Find your pair and answer the following items on a
1 whole sheet. (3 items, 20 points)

Determine the following factor of the given polynomial use Factor

Theorem.Show your complete solution.

1. f(x)= (3x3 – 16x2 + 28x -15) ; ( x- 5)

2. h(x)= (2x3 – 5x2 - 3x + 9) ; ( x- 3)

3. g(x)= (5x3 – 11x2 -7x - 14) ; ( x + 1)
