Title: Effects of Bamboo Leaf Fiber Content on Cushion Performance and Biodegradability of

Natural Rubber Latex Foam Composites

Link: https://www.mdpi.com/2073-4360/15/21/4276
Date: January 27, 2023
Findings: The eco-friendly cushions of Natural Rubber Latex foam were developed as an
alternative for cushion packaging for fresh produce. This study illustrates the possibility of
improving the packaging cushion to be more sustainable and lessen its negative
environmental impact. Upon being scanned by the Scanning Electron Microscopy it showed
that the Bamboo Leaf Fiber in a Natural Rubber Latex foam caused an increase in cell size
and a decrease in the number of cells. The changes in the cell structure and number of cells
resulted in increases in the bulk density, hardness, compression set, compressive strength,
and cushion coefficient. The findings of this work suggests that the possibility of developing
an eco-friendly cushion with a faster degradation rate while maintaining cushion
performance, which could be a better alternative for sustainable packaging in the future.

Title: Chitosan-based films with antioxidant of bamboo leaves and ZnO nanoparticles for
application in active food packaging
Link: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S014181302101802X
Date: August 17, 2021
Findings: The function of chitosan film was reinforced by Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles (ZnO) and
antioxidant of bamboo leaves (AOB) for food packaging application. The results of structural
characterization indicated the good compatibility among Chitosan, ZnO nanoparticles and
AOB. The chitosan film had the best mechanical strength and the highest light transmittance.
Chitosan/ZnO/AOB films with high UV-barrier, strong antimicrobial and antioxidant activities
have promising prospected for active packaging in the food field. The results suggests that
the chitosan/ZnO/AOB films could be applied as potential active packaging materials in food
industry to extend the shelf-life of packaged food.

Title: The Creation of Single-Use Packaging from Leaves to Reduce the Plastic Waste
Link: https://so04.tci-thaijo.org/index.php/JUCR/article/view/256002/173313
Date: 2021-12-13
Findings: Recently, environmental protection has become a global megatrend, so natural
containers have been continuously employed. Nonetheless, it is expected that those
containers must be as durable as the plastic ones in order to be used more than once.
Therefore, this research has fulfilled the missing gap of the need for Natural containers
made from organic matter, leaves whose physical features are suitable for short-term use or
single use in the hope that they can be substituted for plastic containers, which is the
majority proportion of packaging waste. That’s why they came up with the use of fresh Noni
leaves and bamboo strips and soft structured packaging made from dried leaves from the
Purple Orchid tree and Banana tree derived cords. Wherein these multipurpose containers
address the design criteria: which supports the food's weight, can carry both dry and moist
foods and can be held with one hand.

Findings: Bamboo leaves can be used for packaging, coarse fine packing material and so on.
According to the following literature reviews, bamboo is the fastest-growing perennial plant
and can be used for furniture, utensils, fiber, paper, and fuel. The morphology of bamboo is
divided into two major portions, the rhizomes, and the culms. The culm is the portion of the
bamboo tree that contains most of the woody material and it is complimented by a
branching system, sheath, foliage leaves, flowering, fruits, and seedlings making it a suitable
material to be used as a coarse fine packing material.
