BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Students that are in TVL strand can gain the skills and knowledge necessary to seek employment

straight after high school, whether it is in the Philippines or overseas. TVL is designed for

honing the skills of students to express their creativity and knowledge, it helps to develop the

skills in technology, and livelihood.

It provides a multi-stranded core and specialized hands-on courses that meet the standard hour

requirement and competency-based assessment of TESDA Technical Education and Skills

Development Authority (TESDA) is the government agency tasked with managing and

supervising technical education and skills development (TESDA) in the Philippines. They

provide scholarships neither and to help assess those students who wants to look for a job after

graduating senior high school especially those graduates who is in TVL track, today’s society

there are students that focus more on their future and looks for a way or path to discover for them

to have a glimpse of what they want and that is by working, or other students may lack of

financial support. One of the most effective ways to improve is through learning and acquisition

of new sets of skills. Investing in oneself through self-improvement is important. TESDA

provides services to their students in order to land jobs upon graduation. Therefore, having this

certificate will make a big opportunity to those students who wants to land on a job as soon as

they graduate.

One of the benefits of National Certificate II (NCII), NC II passers enable them. To be more

employable, productive and flexible to the changing requirements of the industry and the

workplace domestic and overseas. This will make the students aim for passing this assessment so

they can have the benefit of being an NCII holder. In modern academic discourse, it has been

asserted that the conventional structure of formal education in schools was not sufficient to

manage with contemporary teaching oppositions (Hakkarainen et al. 2004; Lehtinen, 2008;

Tynjälä & Gijbels, 2012) Nevertheless, various approaches to the composite area of workplace

learning called for an improvement of the notion as linked to this study. The Department of

Education (2011) claims that those students who are not influenced to go to college and want to

pursue the technological-vocational courses stand to benefit from the K-12.


Though this may sound easy being a TVL student might be a bit challenging because of the

activities in between honing your skills for you to become more trained and well prepared for the

assessment, and yet there's more of problems after that, according to a study there are different

types of challenges that are encountered of being a TVL student here in the Philippines, the study

utilized a approach discovering the views of Technical-Vocational-Livelihood students in a

Philippine University toward collaborative academic writing task and the challenges they

experience in this activity are explored. Almost all of the students have a challenge or decisions

to make in the future, and as a student that might take up this assessment they should know the

importance of having the opportunity to be a NCII holder.

One of the benefits of National Certificate | pass, NC II passers enable them to be less reliant on

the changing demands of industry, the workplace, and the industry domestically and abroad.

The education program in various schools aims to equip the students with the skills and

knowledge needed should they choose middle-level employment after graduation. Quality

education has been the major thrust of Philippine Education. It is this very characteristic of TVL

that makes distance learning particularly challenging, in the sense that it focuses on practical

skills and work-readiness. In contrast, some specializations that may be more easily converted to

distance learning are those with a stronger emphasis on academic subjects or on work-specific

skills that do not require manual activities. This TVL track has been increasingly valued in order

to improve employability and other human development outcomes for SHS TVL learners which

may lead to the learners opportunity to qualify for a National Certificate II (NCII).

However, the NCII assessment has not been recognized as a requirement for graduation. This

poses a serious question of whether the K to 12 programs is serious enough in preparing them
academically and technically to improve their employability in relation to their specialization as

one of the promised curriculum exit expectations of the K to 12 programs. Another issue is

implementation of Work Immersion (WI) for TVL track.

Preparing the graduating students who hope and relied heavily on us to gain relevant and

practical industrial skills and eventually take the CSS NCII Assessment, to fulfill these promises

of the Senior High School TVL program and to address the challenges faced due to COVID-19

induced school limitations in teaching TVL-related skills, TVL teachers need to come up with

out-of-box responses. In order to gain confidence in the assessment of the national certificate,

specialized training in an environment in which. learners can practice the required core

competencies is one of the most important factors to pass the assessment All it required is the

commitment to the profession, a little creativity, and innovation of TVL teachers to make these

activities available, despite the on-going crisis, all for the welfare of our learners.

The assessment process aims to determine whether graduates and workers can meet the standards

expected in the workplace on the basis of defined competence standards. Certification is granted

to those who meet the competence standards. This ensures the productivity, quality and global

competitiveness of middle-level workers. In conclusion, some students find the certificate

sustainable while others are somewhat thinks that it is not, it is based on the student’s

preferences. This research study has been or might not been researched yet here in town. Hence,

that "A Tracer Study Among TVL NCII Holders: It's Perception on Job Readiness and Skills" in

one of the first study that is being conducted here in town. Though this may sound easy being a

TVL student might be a bit challenging because of the activities in between honing your skills

for you to become more trained and well prepared for the assessment, and yet there's more of

problems after that, according to a study there are different types of challenges that are

what is the national certificate II (NCII) and why is it gives a chance of high employment on

TVL students and give the researchers the benefit that they will gain in conducting this research

study.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This study will benefit the following:

The student will benefit this study because they will have enough knowledge on what

will may be happen to them after finishing their Senior High School.

School and Administration

The School can be a beneficiary of this research because it will serve as their data and

basis of the student for their record.

Parents

This study can be fruitful for the parents as they can have a glimpse look for their child’s

future.

Future Researcher

This study will serve as their springboard for a higher level of study on the said topic.

Therefore, researchers conducting this research will also benefit, as they can expand their

knowledge of this specific certificate and how it will be used in the future such as their

employment.
DEFINITION OF TERMS

Perception – way of regarding, understanding, or interpreting something; a mental impression.

Benefits – an advantage or profit gained from something.

Theory – a supposition or a system of ideas intended to explain something, especially one based

on general principles independent of the thing to be explained.

Program – set of instructions that a computer follows in order to perform a particular task.

Experience – practical contact with and observation of facts or event.

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION

The purpose of this study is to give more knowledge to those TVL students that are wondering

what the purpose of NCII is. This study was conducted during the first semester of the school

year 2022-2023 by TVL student group 4. The NCII passers- enable them to be more employable,

productive and flexible to the changing requirements of the industry and the workplace

domestically and overseas.

The research is only limited to determine the perception of the job-readiness and skills matching

NCII holders among TVL graduates of Saint Joseph College for the past 5 years.

THEORETHICAL FRAMEWORK

This study is based on Yorke and Knight's employability theory includes the concept of "a set of

achievements - skills, understandings and personal attributes - that make graduates more likely to gain

employment and be successful in their chosen occupations" . They emphasize the importance of equipping

students with the necessary skills to match employability competencies . The theory also recognizes the

ethical imperatives, as well as the business, economic, and legal cases for enhancing the employability of

disabled students . Additionally, the theory acknowledges the need for a practical model of employability

that can be used as a framework for working with students to develop their employability . The model

includes various elements of employability that are discussed and justified based on existing research .

RESEARCH DESIGN

This study will use Descriptive research because aims to accurately and systematically describe a

population, situation or phenomenon. It can answer what, where, when and how questions. A

descriptive research design can use a wide variety or research methods to investigate one or more

variables.

RESEARCH INSTRUMENT
In this study, the researchers will use surveys and questionnaires to gather all the data to

determine whether or how TVL NCII holder use their training and how their training benefits

them in their current chosen jobs/fields.

Ethical Considerations

This study is in accordance with the ethical standards of American Psychological

Association Ethics Code which is the basis for conducting research in the social sciences

discipline.

It shall respect the agreed-upon privacy and confidentiality of the information that will be

collected from participants. The researcher will ensure that no participant is forced to participate

in the study; instead, emphasis will be placed on voluntary involvement while choosing the

respondents. In addition, the participants will be informed about the materials' scope, limitations,

purpose, and context. Through a letter and consent documents that must be duly completed by

the participants, the researcher will request permission from both them and their parents or legal

guardians. The researcher will make sure that all data will be kept secured and safe to keep the

privacy and confidentiality of the information to be gathered so as not to risk the participants of

the study.
