Economic Programs Here are some indicators of economic growth: 1. Increase in production- an increase in production means an increase in worker’s income. The increase in production will be useless if there is also increase of population rate. 2. Use of modern technology and infrastructure The use of new technologies and infrastructures in production promotes national development. Infrastructure - the basic systems and services that are needed in order to support an economy, for example, transport and communication systems and electricity and water supplies. 3. Increase in the number of industries and agriculture an increase in the number of industries and agricultural lands means an increase in employment opportunities as well. Imports will decrease while exporting Philippine products will add to the dollar revenue of the country. 4. Increase in labor force The progress of a country is in the hands of its people. Employment would mean enabling people to sustain their families’ needs as well their children’s education. To improve the economic lives of the Filipino people, the Philippine government has implemented the following: 1.Providing job opportunities for the people-Department of Labor and Employment ( DOLE) There is huge demand on skill-based jobs such as welding and piping. Sources of employment : agriculture, industries, services, transportation, real estate, and Education. The labor force is compose of people aged 18-64 years old. Children with age 17 years below and who are already working are considered part of the society’s growing problem on child labor. 2. Establishing schools for Technical and Vocational courses TESDA ( Technical Education and Skills Development Authority) is an agency that administers these schools. 2. Privatization selling of government stocks to private individuals or corporations People will enjoy better services since these government stocks are already owned by private individuals or corporations. 4. Supporting liberalization and free trade The Philippines is an active member of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) - This program helps in promoting the development of the national economy because local manufacturers will be forced to improve their products and decrease their prices. 6. Creating economic zones Designated place in the country that serves as the center for industrialization and where foreign investments can be found. Different Economic Zones: Agro-Industrial, Manufacturing Economic Zones, Tourism Economic Zones. Programs on Infrastructures and Public Works The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)- is a primary agency responsible for planning, designing, and maintaining the infrastructures and public work projects such national highways, bridges, floodway systems, health centers and public school buildings. 1.North Luzon and South Luzon Expressway a. North Luzon Expressway (NLEX)- facilitates transportation of people from Metro Manila to the different provinces in North and Central Luzon.

It also protects the workers’ rights as well as ensures their safety in the industries and companies under the supervision of the government. 4. Plans Budget The government is accountable for the taxes they collect from the Filipinos. Department of Budget and Management (DBM)- administers the national budget to ensure fair, just and proper expenditures of the Filipinos’ family. It also guards the financial operation of the local government and government- owned companies and corporations. 5. Assists the poor and underprivileged- DPWH- Department of Social Welfare and Development- provides social services and makes all efforts to alleviate poverty in the country. The government has programs as well for the less fortunate, beggars, and disabled. Department of Environmental and Natural Resources (DENR) – Responsible for the protection of the country’s environment (conservation, management, development and proper use of the natural resources.) 7.Department of Science and Technology (DOST) – conducts researches and implements project which aims to improve the sector of science and technology in the country. 8.
