TREADING THE ROAD TO MASTERY

Directions: Read the passage below. On a separate sheet of paper, follow the format of the table below and
write down the word or words that you think is a figure of speech. Identify the figure of speech, and then briefly
explain what the word/s mean.

My grandfather is the best grandfather in the world. He is an early riser as he is already awake even
before the sun starts to peek behind the mountains. He is as busy as a bee whenever he works in his
backyard. The plants in his garden are his children. They would nod happily as grandfather watered them.
He is as also strong as a bull.

When I was young, I saw him carrying buckets of water like it was a bag of feathers. He was also a great
potter as the clay pots easily followed his steady hands. Grandfather is also a good painter. He can make a
masterpiece in less than a second. He is also a good chef because he is as good as his brother.

TREADING THE ROAD TO MASTERY

Directions: Read the passage below. Look for the idiomatic expressions in the passage.

Write down the idiomatic expressions as well as its meaning on a separate sheet of paper.
Last Christmas, I decided to travel alone and went to Baguio. Although there was a heavy rain, I managed to
get into the hotel in the nick of time. I crossed my fingers that the rain will stop the next day, and it did! It was
a piece of cake to go around the city because there were signs everywhere, and the people were very friendly.
Since I only get to travel once in a blue moon, I made the most out of my day by visiting the church, walking
around Burnham Park, and eating at various places. I then decided to call it a night after spending the whole
day going around.
