STAGE ACTING

VS
VOICE ACTING

Rizki Pradana - Drama Teacher

WHAT IS STAGE ACTING?
On stage, actors use their bodies, faces, and
voices to tell stories directly to a live audience.
It's a dynamic performance where gestures,
movements, and vocal projection create a
connection with viewers in a physical space.
WHAT IS VOICE ACTING?
In voice acting, actors bring characters to life using
only their voices. This form is perfect for audiodrama,
animations, audiobooks, and more. It's all about
mastering tone, pitch, and pacing, recorded in a studio
and synchronized with visuals. No physical
movements—just the power of the voice.
KEY DIFFERENCES
Stage acting involves physical movement
while voice acting relies solely on vocal
expression.
Voice actors may need to exaggerate their
emotions more to convey the intended
message.
Stage actors may use body language and
facial expressions to communicate more
effectively.
EXAGGERATING
VOCAL EMOTIONS
IN VOICE ACTING
In voice acting, it's important to exaggerate
emotions to convey them effectively. Unlike
stage acting, your voice is the only tool you
have to convey emotions.
Techniques for expressing
emotions through voice
- Tone Variation:
Utilize different tones to convey a spectrum of emotions – from warmth
and joy to tension and sadness.

- Pitch Modulation:
Adjust your pitch to reflect the intensity of emotions, using higher pitches
for excitement and lower pitches for seriousness.

- Pacing and Rhythm:

Control the pace and rhythm of your speech to influence the emotional
flow, speeding up for excitement and slowing down for contemplation.
Techniques for expressing
emotions through voice
- Articulation and Pronunciation:
Pay attention to how you articulate words and pronounce sounds, as subtle
changes can convey nuanced emotions.

- Volume Dynamics:
Experiment with volume levels to emphasize emotions – a softer tone for intimacy
and a louder one for passion or urgency.

- Inflection and Intonation:

Play with inflections and intonations to add nuance, emphasizing specific words or
phrases to highlight emotions.
Techniques for expressing
emotions through voice
- Silence and Pauses:
Know the power of silence; strategic pauses can amplify emotional
impact, allowing listeners to absorb and feel the intensity.

- Breath Control:
Master breath control to regulate the flow of your speech, using it to
enhance the emotional depth of your voice.

- Vocal Quality:
Develop a versatile vocal quality, adapting the texture and timbre of
your voice to suit the emotional context of the message.
