SAP Extended Warehouse

Management
Warehouse Order Creation Rule
WO Creation Overview
• In EWM, the warehouse order is the
document that represents an executable work
package that a warehouse employee should
complete within a specific time.
• The warehouse order consists of warehouse
tasks or physical inventory items.
• When products are received, issued, moved or
counted warehouse tasks are created.
WO Creation Process
WO Creation Step by Step
Process Step Detail
The EWM system performs following steps to
create warehouse orders:
1. The process begins when a picking wave
release occurs or a warehouse task is created
in another process:
a. The process begins with the release of a
wave and Warehouse Task creation (Process
Step 1).
Continued
2. Grouping and Sorting
a. Task items are sorted (Process Step 2) and grouped
(Process Step 3) by activity area. As soon as EWM
applies a WO creation rule, it sorts the warehouse
tasks according to these sort rules. Sorting is used by
warehouse order creation to sort the warehouse tasks
that will be assigned to a warehouse order. A maximum
of 15 sort fields can be configured for each warehouse
task sorting rule.
b. Warehouse order creation rules (WOCR's) are
determined based on the Activity Area and the Activity
code from the Warehouse Process Type (Process Step
4).
Continued
3. Apply Item Filters
Item filters are applied (Process Step 5). An Item filter
for warehouse order creation checks an individual
warehouse task for the defined filter criteria.
Examples of filters are minimum/maximum weight,
volume, processing time, route, etc. EWM check
whether the given item filter fits. If the filter fits the
warehouse task, the EWM continues processing for the
warehouse task. If it does not fit, EWM stops
processing the warehouse task and gets the next task
in sequence.
Continued
4. Consolidation Group and Subtotal Filters
a. The Consolidation group is determined based on customizing
settings which indicates the items that can be packed and shipped
together (Process Step 6). Products with the same consolidation
group can be packed together in a system-guided process.

b. A filter can be applied on the subtotal level (Process Step 7)

which includes limits set in customizing.

c. This process continues (Process Steps 5-7) using the next

warehouse creation rule until all items are satisfied.

d. The warehouse order is created (Process Step 8). The warehouse

order is the work package that is delivered to the user for
execution.

Define the warehouse order creation rules necessary
for your warehouse.
• Creation category: WO creation processes the various
categories in different ways like Consolidation group,
Pick Path, Pick-Pack-Pass, Load and unload, etc.
• Item filter: Defined under Define Filters for WO
Creation Rules. WO creation takes these filters into
account for the current WO creation rule.
• Subtotal filter: Defined under Define Filters for WO
Creation Rules. WO creation takes these filters into
account for the current WO creation rule. It uses the
subtotal filter for consolidation group rules and
compares the values defined here with the
corresponding subtotals at consolidation group level.
Continued
• Limit: Limit for the size of a WO, which you
have defined under Define Limit Values for the
Size of a WO.
• Inbound Sorting: Choose one of the sort
sequences defined under Define Sort Rules for
Warehouse Tasks as the inbound sorting.
Extended Warehouse Management (EWM)
uses this sorting at the beginning of WO
creation on the basis of the current WO
creation rule.
Continued
• WO Sorting: Choose one of the sort sequences
defined under Define Sort Rules for Warehouse
Tasks as the Sorting Rules within a WO.
• Packing Profile: Choose Packing Profile if you
want to use a specific packing profile you defined
in Define Packing Profile for WO Creation in order
to define the required pick-handling units.
• Ship. Pack. Profile: Choose Ship. pack profile. if
you want to use a specific profile you defined for
WO Creation. At this point, WO creation uses the
packing profile to determine the shipping
handling units.
Continued
• Preparation Time: The time required by an
employee to prepare the processing of a
warehouse order. For example, this can
include fetching the necessary paperwork or
creating handling units.
• Dest. Stor: Destination storage type, storage
section, and storage bin to specify the work
center to which the WTs, which have been
grouped using the current WO creation rule,
should be taken.
Continued
• Storage Process: Defined in Process-Oriented
Storage Control. For picking you can enter a
packing station as the destination for a WT, by
entering the destination storage type,
destination storage section, and destination
storage bin.
• Determine WkCtr: Indicator specifying that a
work center should be determined for WO
constructed using this WO creation rule. This
indicator is only effective if the WO creation
rule is defined without a storage process.
WOCR Determination
WOCR will be determined based on Activity
Area
Remainder Rule
• If EWM has applied all the user-defined WO
creation rules for the search sequence, and there
are still unprocessed warehouse tasks, the system
uses a remainder rule .
• This rule creates warehouse orders for the
remaining warehouse tasks. EWM summarizes
these warehouse tasks according to the following
criteria:
. For each activity area
. For each queue
. For each consolidation group
Standard Rule
• If the system cannot find a WOCR for an
activity area, EWM applies the standard rule.
The standard rule groups tasks according to
the following criteria:
. For each activity area
. For each Queue
. For each delivery

group can depend on are the following:
- Warehouse number
- Route
- Ship-to party
- Priority of the delivery item
