REVIEW: A NEW RESTAURANT IN TOWN

by James Liu

1 The newest restaurant in the downtown area opened last Tuesday. It’s called The Lin Café. Opening
night attracted a lot of people, but I was able to get a seat after waiting about twenty minutes. The
owners did not know I am a food critic, so my experience at the restaurant was the same as that of any
other customer’s.

2 The restaurant has an exciting menu with a lot of options. There are over one hundred dishes, and
many of them are made with whole and natural ingredients. The main part of the menu is easy to
follow with three clear sections: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There is a special section for vegetarian
and vegan food, but it’s a little confusing because that section has breakfast, lunch, and dinner options
all together. You also have to read the descriptions carefully to tell what is vegan and what is
vegetarian. In my opinion, the owners should find a better way to organize the special section on the
menu.

3 The food tasted delicious. I ordered roasted chicken with mashed potatoes and broccoli. The chicken
was cooked perfectly, and the potatoes were a little spicy, which I loved. However, my meal was cold
when it came to the table. This is likely because the restaurant has been open only a week. I believe
this will improve over time. As with the main menu, there were many desserts available. I had the
chocolate pie, which was amazing.

4 The staff was incredible. The servers were very friendly and apologized for the wait even though it
wasn’t that long. When I mentioned my meal was cold, the server took it back to the kitchen and
heated it up. The server also knew a lot about the menu and was able to answer any questions I had.
Servers from other tables also checked on me whenever they walked by. The staff definitely made my
dining experience enjoyable.

5 I believe the atmosphere in the restaurant could be nicer. It was very dark inside, so it was hard to
read the menu. Also, my chair was not very comfortable. The owner should add more lights and have
different furniture. That would make the restaurant more inviting.

6 In summary, I think The Lin Café is good, but it could improve. It needs a better atmosphere, and the
owner must make sure the food is warm when it is served. If these problems are fixed, I think it could
be a great place to eat. I encourage everyone in town to try it and see if they agree.

a. the servers
b. the food
c. menu options
d. the atmosphere
