NARRATIVE
ON THE CONDUCT OF THE 2022 IN-SERVICE TRAINING FOR
TEACHERS
S.Y 2021-2022

A teacher who enters the profession with inadequate professional preparation

may leave the profession instantly. Stough et al. (2015), suggest that training for
teachers should persist throughout their professional careers. Likewise, teachers must
pursue professional development to equip with new learning experiences and new
trends in teaching diverse learners.

The in-service training for teachers was a comprehensive program that focused
on enhancing various aspects of professional development. The training sessions
covered the preparation of video lessons, action research, table of specification and
test questions, innovation in teaching, and an introduction to mental health
awareness.

During the session on video lesson preparation, teachers learned how to create
engaging and effective instructional videos. They acquired skills in using video editing
tools and techniques to enhance the quality of their lessons. The learning outcomes
included developing multimedia skills, incorporating visuals and interactive elements,
and improving student understanding and retention through video-based instruction.

In the action research session, teachers were guided through the process of
conducting research to improve their teaching practices. They learned how to select
research topics, formulate research questions, collect, and analyze data, and present
their findings. The learning outcomes encompassed understanding the steps involved
in action research, enhancing research skills and critical thinking abilities, and
applying research findings to improve teaching strategies.

The training also focused on the preparation of a table of specification (TOS)

and designing test questions aligned with learning objectives. Teachers gained
knowledge on developing a well-structured TOS and creating test questions that
assess different levels of cognitive skills. The learning outcomes included
understanding the purpose and components of a TOS, creating valid and reliable test
questions, and aligning assessments with learning objectives.

Innovation in teaching was another key aspect covered in the training. Teachers
explored various innovative approaches such as gamification, flipped classrooms, and
project-based learning. The learning outcomes encompassed exploring innovative
teaching methods, promoting creativity and critical thinking among students, and
adapting teaching strategies to meet diverse student needs.

Lastly, the training introduced teachers to the importance of mental health

awareness in the education setting. They learned about common mental health issues,
early signs of distress, coping mechanisms, and available resources for students. The
learning outcomes included developing an understanding of mental health issues,
identifying signs of distress, and promoting mental health awareness and support.

Overall, the in-service training for teachers provided valuable learning outcomes
and takeaways. Teachers enhanced their multimedia skills, research abilities,
assessment design, and teaching methodologies. They also gained insights into
promoting mental health awareness and support in the classroom. These learnings
will undoubtedly contribute to their professional growth and the holistic development
of their students.
