9. Brief History of the Farm:
a. History of the Land:
The area was planted to rice since 1970’s. Low Production was experienced as
the area was planted once a year only due to lack of water supply. Although in
year 2021 there was an irrigation facility in the area, still water supply is
insufficient hence the situation provided opportunity to integrate assorted
vegetables, goat and duck eggs production.
b. Physical Description
The area is located approximately 12km south of the municipality of Daram,
Samar and can be reached by car/motorcycle for 30 mins. It can also be reached
by motorboat ride along the spectacular mangrove forest of barangay Cabac
during high tide for 15 minutes and another 10 minutes hike along the irrigation
canal to the farm. The area is situated beside the creek at the foot of the hills.
c. Water Source:
Water source of the farm used for domestic consumption is spring and for the
crops are rain water, water from the creek through the use of water pump and
the irrigation water during rainy season. In dry season, water impounding using
water pump, blue water containers and water hose.
d. Farm Venture:
The farm ventures on producing organic rice and assorted vegetables as well as
goat and duck eggs. We are currently preparing for the production of organic
feeds of our farm animals, swine, native chicken and goats.

e. Farm Labor:
The farm has hired two laborers aside from on-call farm laborers.

f. Market Reach:

Organic vegetables were sold at the neighboring barangays, and some of the
produced were delivered at Daram and Catbalogan City. Goats were sold to other
farmers in Daram for production purposes.

ORGANIC MANAGEMENT PLAN


1. Vegetables
a. AMPALAYA
SEED PROCUREMENT
 Seeds were purchased from agrivet stores since there’s no available certified
organic seeds in the area.
 Some seeds were provided by the Office of the Municipal Agriculture-Daram.
 Following washing protocols, treated seeds were properly washed twice and
soaked overnight then ragdoll germination technique was done before sowing.
LAND PREPARATION
 Prior to land preparation range-net was installed in the area
 Plowing was done twice and sticking follows
 Holing of hills and application of organic fertilizers including the goat manure,
duck manure, carabao manure and decayed rice straw.
SOWING
 Pre-germinated seeds were sown one plant per hill, seventy cm distance, 1.3
between rows.
 Banana bracks were placed per hill for protection against extreme sunlight
WATER MANAGEMENT
 During sunny days, watering was done in the morning and in the afternoon,
everyday using sprinkler.
 During cloudy days, no rain at all watering was done in the afternoon only.
 During rainy days, rows were check and canals were established to avoid water
logging
TRELLISING
 Bamboo trellis in combination with nylon twines were established
WEED MANAGEMENT
 Ring weeding was done in all rows while under brushing was performed in
between rows
NUTRIENT MANAGEMENT
 Spraying of FPJ was done once a week before flowering
 Spraying of FFJ was done once a week from flowering stage and every after
harvest
 Spraying of Water-Soluble Calcium was done from first harvest onwards
 Hilling up, compost application and mulching was done twice during one month
after planting

 Ampalaya vines were trained to grow in the trellis, twines were used to tie the
vines to the trellis

 Fruit bagging using papers were done to protect the fruits from the attack of fruit
flies

HARVESTING
 Fruits were harvested late in the afternoon using scissors

b. BEANS

2. CALAMANSI PRODUCTION

 Seedlings were transplanted after new shoots emerged in the prepared plant
holes applied with goat manure and compost.
WATER MANAGEMENT
 During sunny days, watering was done in the morning and in the afternoon,
everyday using sprinkler.

3. RICE PRODUCTION
SEED PROCUREMENT
 Palay good seeds swapping from co-farmers (Red Rice)
 Some seeds were provided by the Office of the Municipal Agriculture-Daram.
 Drying for one day and overnight soaking was performed.
SEEDBED PREPARATION
 Prior to plowing, goat manure and rice straw was incorporated in the proposed
seedbed area
 Plowing done twice and farrowing twice too.
 Plot establishment and sowing followed
LAND PREPARATION
 Plowing was done twice and harrowing twice also
 Field Levelling
 Straight Raw marking, 20x20cm
CROP ESTABLISHMENT/TRANSPLANTING
 Transplanting of 20-day old seedling
WATER MANAGEMENT
 At tillering stage, Irrigation at 5cm will be done
 Booting stage, drain the field up to saturation point
 Flowering stage, irrigate the field up to 20cm water level.
 2 weeks before harvesting , drain the field.
WEED MANAGEMENT
 Weeding was done one month old.
NUTRIENT MANAGEMENT

 Spraying of FPJ was done two weeks after transplanting up to booting stage,
weekly interval
 Spraying of FFJ was done during flowering stage up to two weeks before
harvesting, weekly interval
PEST AND DISEASES MANAGEMENT
 Hand picking of “Kuhol” in the area
 All-in-One insects spray were practiced whenever there is presence of insects ,
pest and diseases occurred

HARVESTING
 Fruits were harvested when 80 percent of grains are golden yellow
THRESHING
 Rice threshing of harvested rice follow
WINNOWING
 Winnowing done using rice thresher and / manually.
DRYING
 Sun drying immediately
STORAGE
 Using Clean or Washed sacks
 Proper filling at the bodega
TRANSPORTATION
 Transport through carabao and by motorboat
MILLING
 90 percent Dried stored grain , milled by own.

4. GOAT PRODUCTION (PLAN)


a. Procurement of Stocks
 Stock Selection from local farmer in the municipality , native and upgraded
breed.
PASTURE AREA ESTABLISHMENT
 At the moment the goat management is under conventional management
(tethering method) preparing towards organic way (planning to plant forage
crops like Madre de Agua , Napier grass, Mani-mani, Kakawate,Rensonii)
GOAT HOUSE ESTABLISHMENT
 Using light materials, goat house was established with making sure that each age
group has separate rooms (winlings,pregnant and lactating)
 Flooring distance considered to facilitate goat manure collection
FEEDS AND FEEDING MANAGEMENT
 Water provided using recycled container, change everyday
 Salt provided using hanging bamboo
DISEASES MANAGEMENT/HEALTH MANAGEMENT
 Vitamin intravascular administration through the courtesy of Livestock
Coordinator/Municipal Agriculture Office to avoid stress
 Deworming administration every after 6 months
 Anti-biotic administration if disease pertain
