General Instructions:
(1) There are 33 questions in all. All questions are compulsory.
(2) This question paper has five sections: Section A, Section B, Section C, Section D and
Section E.
(3) All the sections are compulsory.
(4) Section A contains sixteen questions, twelve MCQ and four Assertion Reasoning
based of 1 mark each, Section B contains five questions of two marks each, Section C
contains seven questions of three marks each, Section D contains two case study based
questions of four marks each and Section E contains three long answer questions of five
marks each.
(5) There is no overall choice. However, an internal choice has been provided in one
question in Section B, one question in Section C, one question in each CBQ in Section D
and all three questions in Section E. You have to attempt only one of the choices in such
questions.
(6) Use of calculators is not allowed.

23. Using Biot-Savart’s law derive the expression for the magnetic field at any point on the
axial line of a current carrying circular loop of radius R. Hence, find magnitude of magnetic
field intensity at the centre of circular coil.

24. State the condition under which the phenomenon of resonance occurs in a series LCR
circuit and hence derive the expression for resonant frequency. Plot a graph showing the
variation of current with frequency of an AC source in a series LCR circuit.

A voltage V= 𝑉0 sin 𝜔𝑡 is applied to a series LCR circuit. Derive the expression for the
average power dissipated over a cycle. Under what condition
(i) no power is dissipated even though the current flows through the circuit?
(ii) Maximum power is dissipated in the circuit?
25. A resistor of 100  and a capacitor of 100/  F are connected in series to a 220 V, 50
Hz a.c. supply. (a) Calculate the current in the circuit. (b) Calculate the (rms) voltage
across the resistor and the capacitor. Do you find the algebraic sum of these voltages
more than the source voltage? If yes, how do you resolve the paradox

these cause photoelectric emissions, which one will emit photoelectrons having (i) greater
kinetic energy and (ii) producing larger photocurrent? Justify your answer.

28. Describe the working principle of a moving coil galvanometer. Why is it necessary to use
(i) a radial magnetic field and (ii) a cylindrical soft iron core in a galvanometer? Write the
expression for current sensitivity of the galvanometer.

29. Case study
Surface Charge Density. Surface charge density is defined as the charge per unit surface
area the surface (Arial) charge symmetric distribution and follow Gauss law of electro statics
mathematical term of surface charge density σ=ΔQ/ΔS. Two large thin metal plates are
parallel and close to each other. On their inner faces, the plates have surface charge
densities of opposite sign (± s). Having magnitude 8.8 × 10–12 cm–2 as shown here. The
intensity of electrified at a point is E =σ/ε0 and flux is Φ=E.ΔS, where ΔS = 1 m2 (unit arial
plate)

30. Case Study:


Read the following paragraph and answer the questions. A diode is a two-terminal electronic
component that has a low resistance to the flow of current in one direction thus allowing the
passage of current in one direction whereas there will be a high resistance in the other, thus
restricting the flow of current in that direction. Semiconductor diodes are two-terminal devices
that consist of a p-n junction and metallic contacts at their two ends.

formed in the denser medium of refractive in µ2.
(ii) Light from a point source in air falls on a convex spherical glass surface of refractive
index
1.5 and radius of curvature 20 cm. The distance of light source from the glass surface is
100 cm. At what position is the image formed.
OR
(a) Draw a labelled ray diagram to obtain the image formed by an astronomical telescope in
normal adjustment position and write its magnifying power.
(b) You are given three lenses of power 0.5 D, 4D and 10D to design a telescope.
(i) Which lenses should be used as objective and eyepiece? Justify your answer.
(ii) Why is the aperture of the objective preferred to be large?

32. (a) Define electric dipole moment. Is it a scalar or a vector? Derive the expression for the
electric field of a dipole at a point on the equatorial plane of the dipole.
(b) Draw the equipotential surfaces due to an electric dipole. Locate the points where the
potential due to the dipole is zero.
OR
(a) Using Gauss’ law deduce the expression for the electric field due to a uniformly charged
spherical conducting shell of radius R at a point (i) outside and (ii) inside the shell.
(b) Plot a graph showing variation of electric field as a function of r > R and r < R. (r being the
distance from the centre of the shell)
33. (a) State the two Kirchhoff’s rules used in the analysis of electric circuits and explain
them.
(b) Derive the equation of the balanced state in a Wheatstone bridge using Kirchhoff’s
laws.
