Geothermal Energy
Geothermal Energy
ADVANTAGES OF GEOTHERMAL
ENERGY
1. Environmentally friendly – the carbon footprint
of the geothermal power plant is smaller
compared to conventional fossil fuels.
2. Renewable – the earth’s warm water reservoir
replenishes themselves naturally.
3. Rapidly evolving - geothermal energy is
currently a heavily researched topic due to its
potential.
4. No fuel required - since geothermal energy is
naturally occurring, there is no need for fuels.
DISADVANTAGES OF GEOTHERMAL
ENERGY
1. Location restricted – geothermal power plants
must be built where energy is accessible.
2. Environmental side effects – although
geothermal energy generally does not emit
greenhouse gasses, many of these gasses are
released into the atmosphere during excavation.
3. Earthquakes -geothermal energy may also risk
earthquakes due to the changes in the earth’s
structure caused by the digging.
4. High cost – geothermal energy is an expensive
resource to exploit.
5. Sustainability – geothermal energy must always
be properly managed to maintain its functions.
