Two-way solid Slab design example

Design the floor system and determine the load on axis B of reinforced concrete office
building show below. All the solid slab panel carry characteristic permanent action
(excluding self-weight) of floor finishes &partition and variable action of 3kN/m2 .The
overall thickness of slab is 160mm.Nominal cover that satisfies durability, bond and fire
requirement, Cmin =30mm. C 20/25, S-400, main bar =12 mm, edge = 8mm, are
being used (Also use the unit weight of concrete as 25kN/m3)

Solution:
1. Check the slab for one way or two way
Panel Name Span ratio Check for the slab
S1 Ly/Lx 7200/6000 1.2  2 Two way
S2 Ly/Lx 7200/5150 1.4  2 Two way
S3 Ly/Lx 6000/3430 1.7  2 Two way
S4 Ly/Lx 5150/3430 1.6  2 Two way
