The site of works is located along the Baie du Cap – Chamarel – Case Noyale (B104) road.

The existing road is narrow and consists of several dangerous bends with steep mountain
cuttings on one side and deep ravines on the other.
During the past few years, severe rockfalls had occurred during heavy rainfall endangering
road users at the bottom of the slope. This has become a recurrent problem and on several
occasions the road had to be closed and traffic diversions schemes have been put in place.
Furthermore, with the adverse impacts of climate change being experienced, particularly
heavy rains, the instability of slope will be further accentuated and thereby significantly
disrupting traffic flow. Thus, there is a need to stabilise unstable slopes near roads to prevent
road closures and protect the general public.
the Road Development Authority (RDA) has improved a stretch of road of approximately
1.4Km and stabilise the existing road cuttings and embankment.
