1. Introduction

1.1 General overview

The actual migration is done by the IED Configuration Migration tool in

PCM600. This document however describes the whole workflow to be able to
upgrade your complete configuration. I.e. it covers the necessary updates in
tools such as Application Configuration, Parameter Setting, Graphical Display
Editor and Communication Management.

Several functions have changed version between product versions which also
implies that there are underlying functional changes between the function
versions. The user should make sure that the new function versions in the
updated product fulfill their requirements. The user should be extra careful
before replacing functions, signals or parameters that were removed at
migration.

2. Procedure to Migrate

2.1 Export and import of project and installation

Before starting the migration ensure that correct version of PCM600 and
®
Relion 650 series Connectivity Package are installed. It is also recommended

to export one copy of the project as backup.

1. Make an export of the project you want to migrate by selecting Open/Manage

project:
Configuration Migration June 30, 2020

User Manual 1MRG038614

Rev. A

And then mark your project you would like to export and click Export Project.

The exported project is valuable to use as a backup since migration process is

not reversible.

2. Uninstall previous versions of ConnPack (for 650 series in PCM600 version 2.x).
3. Verify that the folder where the ConnPack was installed is empty (C:\Program
Files\ABB\Connectivity Packages\IEDConnPackRE_650, C:\Program
Files\ABB\Connectivity Packages\IEDConnPackRE_650_13, C:\Program
Files\ABB\Connectivity Packages\IEDConnPackRE_650_21, C:\Program
Files\ABB\Connectivity Packages\IEDConnPackRE_650_22 and C:\Program
Files\ABB\Connectivity Packages\IEDConnPackRE_650_23). If not, delete
remaining files. If installed in 64-bit system, then the default folder location
would be “C:\Program Files (x86)\ABB\Connectivity Packages\”.
4. Install the recommended versions of PCM600 and ConnPack.
5. Install the IED Type Data modules versions to which migration needs to be
done (e.g. ABB REL650 2.2.4 Module).
6. Open PCM600.
7. Select Open/Manage project

2.2 Reference Project

At migration will some functions, signals or parameters be removed and

needs to be reengineered. It is helpful to use an unchanged copy of the
original project as a reference when making these updates.

1. Open a second instance of PCM600.

2. Follow the steps 7-0 in section 2.1 to import the project once again.
3. In addition to the original project name will (2) added to the project name at
import (to distinguish it from the already imported project).
4. Rename the project adding _ref in the end.
5. Open the project [project name]_ref
6. Go back to the first instance of PCM600 (where the first project was opened).

This reference project can be left open in background for examining original
configuration at the reengineering of the migrated IEDs since the migration
reports not give you the details of all changes. All further instructions in this
guide refer to the project to migrate. The reference project should not be
changed.

2.3 IED configuration Migration (ICM)

1. Select the IED to migrate, right click and select Migrate Configuration
Configuration Migration June 30, 2020

User Manual 1MRG038614

Rev. A

2. Select the version to migrate to (e.g. 2.2.4) in the Dialog and press continue.

3. When migrating a configuration from 650 series version 1.0.0 (or 1.0.1 or 1.1.0)
to 1.3.0 it is necessary perform the following steps;
a. Migrate version 1.0.0 (or 1.0.1 or 1.1.0) to version 1.2.1.
b. Change the housing and LHMI to 3U and COM02 to COM05
c. Migrate 1.2.1 to 1.3.0

4. A double progress bar will show up indicating that, it backup the IED

configuration.
Configuration Migration June 30, 2020

User Manual 1MRG038614

Rev. A

5. Various steps during migration process is indicated in the following screen

and the migration process will take few minutes based on the configuration.

6. At the end there will be a dialog to confirm that the migration is completed:
Configuration Migration June 30, 2020

User Manual 1MRG038614

Rev. A

Make sure that “Show IED Configuration Migration Report” check box is
selected, so that we will be able to save or print migration report (to use later
when updating the configuration).

Go to individual sections (e.g.: Graphical Configuration Migration Details, SCL

Information Migration Details etc...) of the migration report and see migration
results in detail.

7. The log window will contain valuable information from three different parts of
the migration:
Configuration Migration June 30, 2020

User Manual 1MRG038614

Rev. A

à Implications of Execution order changes gives information about

functions that have changed execution order which will affect the data
flow in the IED.

à Non migrated parameters will be printed as warnings. Later on these

parameters need to be updated manually.

à Non migrated IEC 61850 signals from datasets will also be displayed
inthe
output window.

à Warning if the maximum number of attributes is reached in the migrated

datasets

8. Copy and save all the output in the log window from the migration. Also check
for any exceptions or errors.

9. If IED configuration migration is performed from 650 version 2.2.x (x=0, 1) to

650 version 2.2.4, then after migration, it is needed to restart PCM600 to get
user defined names max values correctly in Parameter Setting Tool (PST).

10. Now after the migration you have to run the Licence update tool either online
towards the IED or in offline mode with the licence file. This must be done to
get some IED functions with configuration parameters only back into the IED
configuration section in the plant structure. Some of these functions are part
of the fixed instances (found under IED configuration in plant structure) and
these functions will be instantiated automatically (e.g. for the DNP functions),
but their parameters will be reversed to default values.

3. Reengineering

This section describes necessary reengineering after the migration.

3.1 Ethernet Configuration Tool

If IED configuration migration is performed from 650 version 2.2.x (x=0, 1) to 650
version 2.2.4 and if IED configuration contains MU hardware modules, then MUs need
Configuration Migration June 30, 2020

User Manual 1MRG038614

Rev. A

to be re-engineered as per the following steps by referring original configuration

1. Open Ethernet Configuration Tool
2. Go to Merging units tab and update AP Connection and other parameters as
required

3.2 Application Configuration

1. Open Application Configuration

2. If the MU parameters are re-engineered as per section 3.1, then corresponding
MU hardware channel connections need to be re-connected and also set user
defined names to the channels (if applicable) by referring original
configuration
3. Look up in table of Appendix 4 which signals and functions that are removed
in your configuration. If a signal has been removed it indicates that the
particular signal has a new functional meaning. For those functions, study the
application manual and technical reference manual to ensure how they are
connected in the correct way.
4. Update the configuration for the function listed in Appendix 4.
5. When done with the function updates. Save the Application Configuration.

6. Run Validate Configuration.

7. Examine the report in the log window and perform necessary updates.
8. Save Application Configuration again and exit.

User Manual 1MRG038614

Rev. A

3.3 Parameter Setting

Parameter values are retained for all functions listed in Versioned Functions and
Hardwares or Functions instance is changed due to change in creation rule. Also
functions that are not mentioned in the migration report (functions that has same
version in both product versions) will keep their settings.
1. Settings for all functions listed in Obsolete Functions and Hardwares needs to
be redone.
2. If any parameter migration failed (see the log window from the migration) the
parameters needs to be redone (see step 6 and 7 of section 2.3).
3. Further, note that some functions might have new settings.
4. DNP – related functions will have their parameters reset to default values. The
original parameters must be re-introduced.

3.4 SCL/IEC 61850

The IEC 61850 configuration is retained at migration for all unchanged Data
Attributes.
1. SCL Engineering of DAs with changed names, or from LNs or DOs with
changed name are excluded. These signals are listed in the log window at
migration (see the log window from the migration and migration report).
2. It is therefore necessary to export the scd file again and redo the SCL
engineering for the DAs removed at migration. Note, these signals/DOs/LNs
has changed name, verify therefore with documentation that your IEC 61850
configuration is valid.
3. Verify in the SCD file that there are no empty data sets. If there are empty
data sets, either add signals or remove the data set.
4. In PCM600, go to Tools/Options menu, select “IEC 61850 Configuration” as
shown below:
Configuration Migration June 30, 2020

User Manual 1MRG038614

Rev. A

Make sure that the “IEC 61850 configuration engineering mode enabled” is
unchecked, so that it is possible to import the SCD file into PCM600.

5. Import the SCD file when the engineering is done.

6. Open SMT and check connections. Please note, also other IEDs (updated or
not updated) need update of incoming GOOSE signals from migrated IEDs in
SMT.

3.5 Communication Management - DNP

If DNP is to be used, update of configured DNP points is necessary. All DNP points
from versioned functions (migrated functions) will be removed from configuration.
1. Open Communication Management.
2. In the signal list will some of the previously configured DNP points be
strikethrough. See picture below.
3. Mark the corresponding signals from the struck through signals from the left
side. Press the blue arrow to the right to add them.
4. It is also necessary to update the Index number of the signal (should match
the struck through signal) to be able to use the configuration in the DNP
master unchanged.
5. When the update of signals is done, the strike out signals can be removed.

6. Repeat the procedure for all signal types (Analog Input Objects, Binary Input
Objects, Binary Output Objects, Counter Object and Counter Bit Indication
Object) and all configured DNP Masters (Serial and TCP 1- 4).
Configuration Migration June 30, 2020

3.6 Graphical Display Editor

1. Open Graphical Display Editor

2. All mappings to functions that have been manually re-instantiated in
Application Configuration (i.e. mapped functions that were in the Obsolete
Functions and Hardware list of the ICM report) needs to be redone. Also, it is
recommended to check Graphical Display Editor symbol to signal association
for those functions that are upgraded to newer versions.

3.7 Signal Matrix

If SMBI, SMBO, SMMI and SMAI are used for all connections between software
and hardware, no reengineering of SMT is necessary between 650 series
version 2.1.0 and 650 series version 2.2.4 (this is the case for e.g. all pre-
configurations). If hardware was directly connected to the Software function,
the connections need to be remade for obsolete functions and if a signal
connected to hardware of a replaced function has been removed of changed
meaning. Also, if any of the functions in Appendix 4 has been used directly to
hardware, then verify and update the configuration.

If IED configuration migration is performed from 650 version 2.2.x (x=0, 1) to

650 version 2.2.4 and if IED configuration contains GOOSE connections, then it
is needed to perform the following steps to get the LGOS LNs for the
supervision of mapped GCBs for subscriber IED
1. In PCM600, go to Tools/Options menu, Check Automatic GOOSE
supervision configuration enabled option
2. Open Signal Matrix Tool for the subscriber IED
3. Go to Goose Receive tab, uncheck and check one GOOSE connection
4. Save the configuration

3.8 Performances, Fine Tuning and Optimizations

A maximum response time of 120s per IED is expected when the ICM is invoked
by the PCM600 user.

3.9 Re-Testing

After re-engineering, it is recommended to re-test the migrated configuration

4. Appendix

4.1 Table of functions changed in configuration after migration

Following table shows the functions that somehow needs to be re-engineered

in PCM600.For details of the changed signals and functions use the Technical
Reference Manual.
