The various disciplinary perspectives/theories gave us some ideas about ourselves as we

continue to dive into understanding the concept of “self.”

1. If you were able to make a theory about self, which perspective would you want to use as
basis for your theory?

Life is about learning and development, aside from our physical growth, it is our lifelong goal to
become better versions of ourselves in other aspects such as intellect and wisdom. In each day that
we live, we learn and experience new things, big or small, and no matter how far you've achieved,
there's always room to grow. Because our self is all about learning and understanding our
experiences, I believe that Psychology is the best disciplinary perspective to follow as it is the
discipline that studies the human behavior. If I were to make a theory about it, I will use the theory
of cognitivism and constructivism as bases of the theory I will make. These theories make total
sense in the idea of lifelong learning. The theory of cognitivism speaks about learning by building
a relationship between old and new experiences. This indicates further growth of experiences we
had on the past through similar new experiences with much more depth. On the other hand, the
theory of constructivism brings together learning from many different sources, hence, it binds
several experiences that we have in life that makes these much more meaningful.

2. Make your own theory of “SELF”.

Based on my previous answer, I believe that the theory I can come up with is a theory on lifelong
growth and learning. All experiences that we have in life coins to a growth in our personality traits
and thinking. As grow older, we experience things which are old and new. Despite the intensity of
each experience, each delivers a new type of learning which can be looked into in different
perspectives. As we gather more learning and experiences, the depth of our understanding becomes
deeper, making us understand ourselves and the world in a better way. This theory lets us
understand that no experience would not lead to any learning, hence, no matter how big or small
an experience is, it is a chance for us to learn and be a better person than we are prior such
experience.
