THE BALLAD OF SONGBIRDS AND SNAKES

This is Prequel of Hunger games sequels written by Suzanne Collins, which is the movie
adaptation also currently have released in the cinema.

Firstly, The synopsis of this novel briefly focuses on young Coriolanus Snow, who would grow up
to become the tyrannical president in Katniss Everdeen’s era. This is the villain original story when
the time period is in the 10th of Hunger games. He joins the academy and achieves his ambition
to gain back honor and money for his family. And then, He is selected to mentor the female
tribute from District 12 named Lucy Grey Baird. Both Lucy and Snow develop their relationship
not only as the mentor and tribute, but more. And it gets more complicated until the epilogue.

So, I love the plot because its full of surprise. I wasn’t bored reading this book. I like the ballad in
the book, especially the song that written by Lucy Gray, then turned out the song is also sung by
Katniss Everdeen 50 years later. The book also delivers, plenty of violence not only in the game
arena; betrayal; friendship; political issue; power; humanity; even family. The most interesting in
the book is character’s names which are unique. Development of the character is well-described,
especially for the main character. Until, I assumed that the tittle itself also represents the
character of Lucy Gray Baird as a songbird and Coriolanus Snow as a snake.

However, there’s that I don’t like from the book such as love dialogues between Lucy and Snow
are a little bit romantically cheesy for me. The book also doesn’t explicitly tell readers about
Snow’s genuine feelings to Lucy Gray in the end. There’s still a lot of question marks for what
really happened to some other characters afterward.

For the information, I’ve read this book in English version, so honestly, sometimes I’ve found
difficulty to digest the sentences while I was reading the book. But somehow, it’s helpful to
improve vocabulary richness. I recommended this book to increase reading skill. Overall, in my
opinion this is very good book. Dystopian lovers obviously will love this book and the ending will
make mouth gasping. Yeah, this is all for me and I don’t want to spill the beans for the entire
book.
