Introduction
Authentic assessment refers to an assessment that requires students to apply what
they've learned in a new circumstance or situation, typically one that mirrors what would
be expected of them in that discipline or field. The most important advantage of
portfolio assessment is that it allows learners to participate actively with their teachers
in the evaluation process. This gives them the opportunity to reflect on their progress
and growth in order to accept co responsibility for their learning.
Assessment isn’t just important from a student perspective. With the online marketplace
becoming increasingly crowded, it’s critical that institutions ensure they are offering the
courses and experiences that students are looking for.
One of the significant advantages of an online digital portfolio is that it can be accessed
anywhere, anytime, by anyone. It’s also more portable, making it easier for creatives to
showcase their work on the go. In contrast, traditional portfolios require clients to be
physically present to view them. The layout of a digital portfolio is also easier for
potential clients to navigate, as opposed to having to search through physical pages.

Assessment Vs.
Evaluation
In education, the term assessment refers to the wide variety of methods that
educators use to evaluate, measure, and document the academic readiness, learning
progress, and skill acquisition of students from preschool through college and
adulthood. It is the process of systematically gathering information as part of an
evaluation. Assessment is carried out to see what children and young people know,
understand and are able to do. Assessment is very important for tracking progress,
planning next steps, reporting and involving parents, children and young people in
learning.

Evaluation is a broader term that refers to all of the methods used to find out what
happens as a result of using a specific intervention or practice. Evaluation is the
systematic assessment of the worth or merit of some object. It is the systematic
acquisition and assessment of information to provide useful feedback about some
object.

authentic assessment

Authentic assessment helps students

contextualize their learning and to see
how real-life conditions or situations, in
all their unpredictability, ambiguity and
complexity, affect their theoretical
knowledge.
Authentic assessment seeks to
determine the skills or knowledge
students utilize in problem solving real-
life or analogous situations that may not
have clear cut or obvious solutions
