PART -1 Identification
Skin contact with hardened concrete is not harmful. However, dust from hardened concrete can
cause respiratory issues as well as irritation to skin and eyes. This mostly happens during drilling,
sawing and crushing concrete specimens.
Physical and chemical properties will vary dependent source, but generic properties are as follows
A blend of sand, aggregates, Portland cement and water. May also contain ground granulated
blast furnace slag and admixtures
The readymix concrete may take several hours to reach the hardened state. The concrete gains
strength over a period of time and it doesn’t release any toxic gas during this period. It is generally
odorless and appears in different shades of gray.
Ready Mixed Concrete is produced by mixing defined volume of all constituents which is batched
using autocorrecting weighing system and mixed at mixer. Addition of chemical additive/
admixture is optional and provisional depending on respective project specification and demand.
Additive/admixture will be added during mixing of concrete. RMC is mixed central mixer drum
(twin shaft mixer) with the correctly weighed proportions of cement, aggregates, sand and
water/admixture and discharged to transit trucks and transported to final destination without
spillage.
Warning – Wet concrete can cause serious alkali burns if in direct contact with
skin or eyes.
Corrosive
Causes skin Irritation
May cause an allergic skin reaction
Causes severe eye damage.
Skin Contact
For wet concrete - If wet concrete enters boots or gloves, or saturates clothing, remove the articles
immediately, wash the affected skin area with soap/cleanser and rinse with plenty of water. If
irritation persists, obtain prompt medical attention.
Clothing that has become contaminated by fresh concrete should be thoroughly washed before
re-use.
For dry concrete - Remove any contaminated clothing and wash the affected skin area with
soap/cleanser and rinse with plenty of water. If irritation persists, obtain prompt medical attention.
Eye Contact.
For wet concrete - Do not rub eyes as the material is abrasive and may scratch the surface of the
eye. Immediately and thoroughly irrigate with clean water for at least 15 minutes. DO NOT USE
SALINE EYEWASH SOLUTION. Seek medical attention if immediately.
For dry concrete - Do not rub eyes, as the material is abrasive and may scratch the surface of the
eye. Immediately and thoroughly irrigate with clean water or eyewash solution. Seek medical
attention if irritation persists.
Ingestion
For wet concrete - If material enters the mouth, do not induce vomiting. Give plenty of water to
drink. Seek medical attention immediately.
For dry concrete - Give plenty of water to drink. Seek medical attention if feeling unwell.
Inhalation
For dry concrete inhalation of dust - Remove to fresh air and allow person to rest. If recovery is not
rapid obtain prompt medical attention.
Toxicological Information
The product (Ready mixed Concrete) does not contain toxic materials based on the product's
composition/ingredients safety data sheet information
Environmental Assessment
When used and disposed of as intended, no adverse environmental effects are foreseen.
However, material entry into drains and watercourses should not be permitted as it may cause
pollution and or blockage.
Disposal Considerations
Dry Ready-Mixed Concrete is classified as an inert waste and can be disposed of as normal
industrial waste in accordance with waste regulation. Wet Concrete is hazardous waste and
should be allowed to set before disposal. It is recommended that it be disposed of via recycling or
reuse.
Solid concrete waste during construction or demolition stage should be disposed as per
governing rules in the respected region. Since the Customer is committed to provide good
management measures in accordance with the local regulations.
Solid concrete waste can be reused by means of recycling. The recycled material has to be
segregated for different types of embankment use as per standard or local body regulation. If
properly recycled and segregated, the extracted aggregate can be reused for concrete
production especially for low grade as per local body regulation. However there are standard
requirements for recycled aggregate as a component for concrete production.
Curing of concrete structures will be carefully done by optimal usage of water to avoid leaching
of contaminants which may leads to water contamination. Impact due to poor waste
management and accidental spills or due to improper management, may cause impact on land
environment. Since the work places in the project site will be either paved, impermeable and or
area where adequate provision to facilitate clean-up and to prevent land contamination.
Spillage of any construction materials should be avoided, if spillage will occur, the spillage area
should be isolated. Spilled soil will be treated as hazardous waste and will be disposed for
authorized service providers.
Material will not burn and will not be affected by other extinguishing media used to fight fires that
may be present in surrounding areas.
Environmental precautions
Prevent further leakage or spillage if safe to do so. Do not let product enter drains or
watercourses. (Refer to Part 6 for details).
Methods and materials for containment and cleaning up and place in plastic sheet/container to
await transfer.
Label:
The product does not need to be labelled in accordance with respective local laws.
Transport Information:
None. This product is NOT classified as dangerous for transport
As a ready mix concrete supplier, we are following all legal requirements such as registration with
local bodies.
Transgulf will schedule the supply of concrete as per the customer requirement to achieve the
best results.
Customer should follow best practices for casting concrete such as dampen the forms prior to
concreting, prevent excessive surface moisture evaporation by providing fog sprays and erecting
wind breaks.
Customer should cover the exposed concrete with wet burlap or polythene sheets as soon as
finishing has been completed.
Customer should ensure correct placing, compaction and curing has been followed to achieve
the desired results.
The life of concrete depends on the grade of concrete, durability of concrete which will be
agreed during the mix design stage. If the proper information is not communicated to Transgulf in
the initial design stage, Transgulf has no liability since the life of concrete depends on various
factors such as exposure conditions, following best practices during casting, structural
requirements etc.

Note:
This data sheet has been prepared based on available information and for general use. Special precautions shall be taken with respect to the mode of use. It is the
user’s responsibility to follow best and safe practices while handling concrete in fresh and hardened states. As a concrete supplier, we have identified common
issues with respect to handling of concrete and are not liable to any consequences which may happen due to following / not following the information within this
data sheet.
