Getting started
These pages provide some key information to help you make
the most of your visit. Helpdesks are located in multiple Open
Day venues, marked ‘H’ on the maps.

Open Day venues

Today’s Open Day takes place across various areas:
• Central campus (Bristo Square/George Square/Old College)
• Easter Bush campus (7 October only)
• Edinburgh College of Art (ECA)
• Holyrood campus
• King’s Buildings campus
• New College
• Pollock Halls (Accommodation) Refreshments
During your visit to the University you will find a range of

Some activities are due to be very busy, and where space is
limited our priority will be to ensure that prospective students
can attend. Therefore, your booking for a talk, taster or tour
will ensure that the student associated with the booking
can access that activity but guests may not be able to join.
Remaining spaces will be allocated on a first come first serve
basis, with priority for prospective students. We appreciate your
understanding, and all guests will be welcome to speak with
staff at information desks and visit University facilities.

Fire alarms
No fire alarm tests are planned. If the alarm sounds please
leave the building by the nearest exit and follow instructions
from staff and Student Ambassadors.

Illness / Injury
Please report illness / injury to the nearest staff member, who
will be able to arrange first aid assistance.

Subject and service talks Accommodation

These talks provide an introduction to our subject areas and
other aspects of studying with us, including accommodation,
admissions, study abroad, sport and student life. Most talks
will last 30 minutes.
Information desks
Available for all subject areas and key services between 10:00
– 16:00. There are plenty of staff available to speak to about
our subject areas and courses, as well as fees & funding, study
abroad, careers, support, extracurricular activities and more.
Admissions
Our admissions staff will be available at information desks
between 10:00 – 16:00 to provide one-to-one, tailored advice
on applying to the University (see page 5). Admissions
questions should be directed here rather than subject
information desks, unless otherwise stated.
Admissions talks provide general information about
admission to the College, while the information desks
offer you the opportunity to find out about detailed entry
requirements for your chosen programme and discuss your
particular circumstances.
Find out about our student accommodation options and
‘accommodation guarantee’ from the information desk as
well as multiple talks throughout the day. A selection of
accommodation is open to tour at Pollock Halls, though
please note that as it is term time, only a few example rooms
will be available to view (page 4).
Tours and facilities
You can view some of the excellent
facilities you might use as a student
here, including our main libraries,
sports facilities and a selection of
accommodation options (page 4). Some
subject areas offer tours, and details of
these are listed on pages 5 - 9.
Our self-guided audio campus tour also allows you to
explore our campuses at a pace and time that suits you. The
app is free to download and is compatible with most iOS and
Android devices - all you need is a smartphone or tablet. Scan

Taster lectures
Available in a range of subjects, these sample lectures will
give you an insight into what studying might be like at
Edinburgh. Whilst the lectures are presented by academics
from specific subject areas, they may be of general interest to
a wider audience.

Language taster sessions

Our School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures is running
beginners’ language taster sessions, each covering a language
from Europe, East Asia or the Middle East that you may not
have had a chance to try before. To give you an authentic
experience of small group learning, numbers are very limited
and advance booking is required. View details and book
