A SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN ___________

Date: December 12, 2021

SEMI- DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN GRADE 10 MATHEMATICS

I. Objectives:

At the end of this lesson, the learners are expected to:

A. Identify the dividend, divisor, and quotient in polynomial long division

problems.
B. Interpret the given problems and follow the steps in dividing polynomials
using long division.
C. Apply the steps in dividing polynomials in the real-life situations or problems.

II. Subject Matter:

a. Learning Competency: Perform Division of Polynomials using long
division
b. Topic: Division of Polynomials
c. Materials: Printed Materials, Visual Aids, post cards, Laptop
d. References: Grade 10 Learner’s Module (Module 2 Lesson1 - p.57)
e. Value: Collaboration

III. Procedure
A. Preparatory Activities
1. Classroom Routine
• Prayer: The teacher will choose a student to lead the
prayer.
• Greetings
• Attendance: The class secretary will be requested to
check the absent in the class.

2. Motivation
• Introduce Activity “ The picture Relate”. Let the
students relate the picture in their real life experiences
which they think that dividing polynomials using long
division is being used in their daily activities. Each
group will formulate and gathered their ideas, then one
of their group member will present their ideas in the
class.

IV. Lesson Proper

1. Activity “Classify Me”

• The teacher post in the board some expressions and
numbers.
• The teacher will instruct the students to classify those
expressions numbers, if it’s either dividend, divisor,
quotient .
• Students will be given 3 minutes to complete their
tasks.
2. Analysis
The teacher will ask the following questions:

• Are you familiar with the numbers, and

expression in the given activity? Explain your
answer.

• “Did this activity help you recall what are needed

in dividing polynomials?”

• “Do you find difficult by classifying those

expressions?”

3. Abstraction
The teacher will discuss the following concepts:
Division of Polynomials

- terms of a polynomial may be written in

any order. However, we often follow the
convention of writing the terms in
decreasing power of the variables. In this
case, the polynomial expression is said
to be in standard form.

- The procedure for dividing two

polynomials is similar to the procedure
for dividing two integers.
Example1:

- Find the quotient and the remainder

when 10x²+2x⁴+8+7x³ divided by 2x²+x-1

Solution:

Write the dividend in standard form and insert

zeros as coefficients of any missing term to obtain
2x⁴+7x³+10x²+0x+8. Both dividend and divisor should
be in standard form.

Steps on how to divide polynomials using long division:

Step 1: Divide the leading term of the dividend, 2x⁴ by

the leading term of the divisor, 2x². Enter the result, 3x
over the term 2x⁴,as follows:
Step 2: Multiply x² by 2x²+x-1 and enter the result below the
dividend.

Step 3: Subtract and bring down the remaining terms.

Step 4: Repeat steps 1-3, until the process ends.

4. Application

• In a ½ crosswise paper, find the quotient of 5x²-

+x-15 divided by x-4.

V. Evaluation

Direction: Find the quotient of the following polynomials using the long division.
Complete solutions in a clean 1 whole sheet of paper.

1.(x²+3x+10)÷ (x+2)
2.(10x³+5x²+75x-40) ÷ (2x+1)
3.(12x³+10x²+5x+1)÷ (3x²+x+1)
4.(3x⁴-x³+x-2) ÷ (3x²+x+1)
5.(4x⁵-25x⁴+40x³+5x²-30x-18) ÷ (x²-6x+9)

VI. Assignment

Direction: Solve the following problems. Show your complete solutions. Just answer what
is asked in the given problems.

1.Find the quotient when (x³-6x²+2x+8) is divided by (x-3).

2.Suppose the area of a rectangle is (x²-7x+4) square units. If it’s width is (2x-5) units,
what expression represents it’s length?

3.A tailor earns (12y²+y-35) pesos for working (3y-5) hours. How much does he earn per
hour?
