TASK #2 – READ AND LEARN

After answering the Pre-test, read and understand the lesson Below. You may
also open this link to access the information sheet which will give you
additional data about the lesson.

There are several kinds of testing methods for electronic components,
these are the following:

1. Passive testing- assesses the ability to obtain and store the energy coming
from the active electronic components. Passive electronic components to
be tested are the following:

• Capacitors- (originally known as a condenser) is a passive two-

terminal electrical component utilized to store energy
electrostatically in an electric field.

• Resistors- is a passive two-terminal electrical component that

employs electrical resistance as a circuit element. Electrical
resistance is a gauge of its opposition to the movement of electric
current. It regulates the flow of current and voltage levels within the
field.

• Transformer- is an electrical device that transmits electrical energy

between two or more circuits through the process of
electromagnetic induction. Electromagnetic induction is a creation
of an electromotive force across an electrical conductor in a
modifying magnetic field.

• Inductor- is a passive electrical component comprising of a coil of

wire which is intended to hold the advantage of the connection
between magnetism and electricity as a result of an electric current
going across the coil.

• Diode- is a two-terminal electronic component that only performs

current in a single direction within a specific voltage point.

2. Dynamic testing- is mechanical testing that involves static, dynamic, and

fatigue testing in tensile, compression, shear test modes. It utilized equipment
to verify the new designs, improve manufacturing processes, and prove the
quality of end products. It is important to validate the quality of the product

to ensure its mechanical endurance and integrity.

3. In-circuit testing- focus on testing the efficiency of the printed circuit board
by measuring each component that is in place and of the correct value. It
can be calculated in terms of simple measurements or resistance,
capacitance, and inductance between two points on the circuit board. The
most faults on board that usually arise in the manufacturing process are short
circuits, open circuits, or wrong components. In-circuit test equipment
consists of several elements:

A. In-circuit tester- contains a matrix of drivers and sensors that are

utilized to set up and conduct the measurements.

B. Fixture- created exclusively for a particular board, and serves as a

crossing point between the board and the in-circuit tester. It holds
the links for the driver sensor points and tracks them directly to the
significant points on the board using a "bed of nails".

C. Software- gives instructions to the test system on what assessments to

make, between what points and aspects of the pass/fail criteria.

Writing Technical Report

The main task of a technical report is to give information on the condition of

the electronic components of the device. It is intended for long-term archival
of results and description and monitoring of the condition of the devices.

The report answers the following important questions:

a. What is the report about? What are you trying to say?
b. Who are you writing for?
c. How long can the report be? It can help you to easily:
1. Identify electronic components
2. Comprehend the faults or conflicting electronic components inside the
device.
3. Help the technician evaluate the problems of the electronic components.

C. Engagement 1 Hour After reading and understanding the lesson, answer the following activities:
Pakikipagpalihan TASK #3 – PICTURE COMILATION
DIRECTIONS: Look/search for the pictures of the following electronic
components to be tested. Draw or print and paste the picture in your TLE
notebook. Make sure that you will also write its definition after you draw or
paste the picture of the electronic component. Present the activity neatly.
✓ Capacitor

✓ Resistors

✓ Transformer

✓ Inductor

✓ diode

TASK #4 – WRITING A TECHNICAL REPORT
