PROFESSOR: DR. ERWIN B. BERRY Activity 2

IDENTIFYING AND RESEARCHING TOPIC

1. Identify the topic that could be the focus of a research study, and write two or
three different research questions that could be addressed on this topic. Discuss
whether quantitative or qualitative methods would provide the best evidence each
research question.
Ans:

Experience- Most of the research isn’t just because we experienced it, it’s because half of it
is just caught our interest and we witnessed how it influence our ways of thinking and wants
to improve such issue/topic for the next generation.

For me as a teacher, for example my topic is about mental health and factors that causes
depression among teachers. The questions would be:

1. I wonder if most of the teacher has a common problem of affecting one’s mental
health?
2. I wonder how they recognized or realized that its already affecting their mental
health?
3. I wonder if these factors affect their performance as a teacher or intructor?

Quantitative methods are the best option to use on this topic, because we can measure and
analyze/evaluate the opinions and behavior of the teachers and interpret the data or
conclusion. In other words, the findings will reveal how many common factors exist among
teachers that affect their mental health.

2. For the topic you select for your research proposal, locate at least two of the
following types of articles: review of literature, opinion article, how to or
experiential report, empirical research study, compare the articles you found
several other students in the class. Discuss the features can be used to identify
each type of article.

1. TITLE: THE IMPORTANCE OF INSTILLING FINANCIAL LITERACY

AMONG TEACHERS AT SAN VICENTE NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

Related Literature
The results of previous financial literacy and financial planning studies are provided.
Financial literacy is affected by demographic parameters such as profession, gender,
income, nature of employment, and place of work, according to ING Group, Taylor, and
Lusardi et al., (2010).
Instructors understand the importance of financial education but few teachers are currently
teaching financial literacy, and teachers are not confident in their ability to teach personal
finance. They also discovered that there is a pressing demand for personal finance
education opportunities for teachers according to Wendy L. Way and Karen Holden's
(2009) study
According to their research, male respondents have a better chance of receiving proper
answers when it comes to financial literacy, and so this probability rises with education and
aggressiveness. Agarwal et al., (2015)
'Unfortunately, many people lack a basic understanding of personal finance. General
mindsets toward spending and conserving are also concerning. It is not so much a dearth of
information as it is a lack of skill to comprehend it. Many consumers appear to be unaware of
the future financial strain they would face as a result of taking out high-interest loans rates.
It's challenging to estimate how many people are making poor decisions without knowing all
of the details of each situation. However, given a significant portion of the population's
apparent lack of financial knowledge, high rates of consumer bankruptcy, and a large share
of the population inadequately prepared for retirement, there are reasons for concern.
(Lerman & Bell, 2006)’
This method of planning allows people to keep track of their finances. People must first
define and create priorities in order to accomplish this. It makes a difference in how well
financial needs and goals are met if you have a plan for spending, saving, and investing
money. Meeting such objectives necessitates financial planning that takes into account all
elements of one's financial life, including budgeting and tax management, liabilities,
purchasing decisions, insurance management, investment management, retirement
planning, and estate planning. (Kapoor et al, 2014)

2. TITLE: FACTORS THAT AFFECTS THE MENTAL HEALTH OF SAN

VICENTE NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL TEACHERS.

Related Literature
The results of previous financial literacy and financial planning studies are provided.
The reasons for teachers' reported behavior are still unknown issues with mental health
Teachers must strike the balance between teaching and managing their students.
Instructional support, classroom management, planning and organization, and the promotion
of high-quality classroom interactions are all skills that may be learned (Feldon, 2007; La
Paro, Pianta, & Stuhlman, 2004)
It's crucial to understand teachers' mental health for a variety of reasons. The goal is to
support instructors, but these symptoms also have repercussions for kids. Teachers' mental
health issues have a variety of consequences for students, including poor teacher-student
relationships and instructional exchanges (Hamre & Pianta, 2004; Li Grining et al., 2010)
Until recently, studies of teachers' experiences had mainly looked at negative mental health
indicators like stress and burnout separately. However, these factors frequently coexist
among teachers (Ferguson et al., 2012; Steinhardt et al., 2011)
Emotional weariness is likely the most important aspect of burnout since it is a strong
predictor of depersonalization, which leads to a decrease in individual achievements (Arens
& Morin, 2016).
Teachers are stressed out by large classes, students' behavior, a tremendous workload,
frequent changes in the educational system, and their poor professional image as well as a
lack of support from coworkers and school administrators (Rudow 2002; Maslach and
Jackson 1984).

3.STUDENTS' PERSPECTIVES ON THE NEED FOR SEX

EDUCATION AT SAN VICENTE NHS HIGH SCHOOL

Related Literature
The results of previous financial literacy and financial planning studies are provided.
According to studies, parents and teachers involved in sex education should have certain
personal characteristics, as well as adequate training and a positive attitude toward sex
education, in order to encourage their children's behavior (Kakavoulis, 2001; Badhan et al.
2002).
Sex education is vital for students and plays a vital role in HIV/AIDS prevention (Tilakvathi,
1997).
Sex education must begin in childhood. He claims that sexuality should be discussed in a
natural way at home, such as after hearing something on the news, when expressing an
opinion about the views of a real person or a fictional chapter (television, literature), or
whenever the topic arises. Melgosa (1997)
Sex education in schools can be a valuable and practical tool for enhancing young people's
knowledge, attitudes, and behavior. There is widespread agreement that formal education
should include sex education (Forrest, 2005)
It will also assist in providing information to young people on a variety of sexual health
topics, including as puberty, reproduction, and healthy relationships.STI/AIDS prevention,
birth control, abstinence, sexual orientation, and sexual abuse/coercion are all topics that
need to be addressed (Rueben, 1979)

3. Describe the sources and strategies that you have found most useful in
researching topic. Discuss how you revised your original research question
based on what you have learned, and identify any further information that you
feel is needed to complete your review of literature.
Ans:
There are many sources and strategies that need to make to find specific research
topics that relate to your interests or chosen topic. Nowadays, people use technologies or
use internet surfing to search for reviews of literature. First, I choose the topic which relates
to me or has captured my attention that needs to answer my questions or out of curiosity.
Second, I searched for pdf, HTML, or full text that helps me better understand more about
the topic I choose. Searching and analyzing the studies or reviewing literature might also
change our research questions which means you will learn a lot and more information you
will gather about the certain topic results in revising your questions.

I learned that using these strategies and methods isn’t enough. More sources mean a big
chance of success in the research. Looking for sources in your review literature, also
reminding us not to limit only to the Internet. Also, try the people as sources, books, journals,
government agencies, experts and etc. these are good for research information. Lastly, the
sources must have been evaluated from the authority, accuracy, objectivity, currency, and
coverage.
