Identifying Error Reviewer

TIPS: Sa identifying error, titignan ng test taker kung alin sa mga pangungusap ang
maaaring nagpapakita ng maling grammar sa aspeto ng Subject-verb Agreement,
Parallelism, Prepositional Phrase, Verb, at iba pa.

 Para malaman kung alin sa bahagi ng pangungusap ang mayroong mali, simulang
tingnang maigi kung alin ang Verb (Pandiwa).

The man walks alone.

Verb

Ang verb o pandiwa ay hindi lamang salitang kilos o galaw. Maaari rin itong maging isang
Past|Singular Past|Plural Present|Singular Present|Plural
was were is are
had had has have
did did does do

 Sunod namang tignan kung alin Subject (Paksa) ang pinapatungkulan ng Verb.

The man walks alone.

Subject Verb

[Sino ang naglakad? Sino ang gumawa ng kilos? Kanino nakapatungkol ang pandiwa?]

 If the subject is singular, the verb is with s; if the subject is plural, the verb is without s.
Use the singular/plural form for the linking verbs (e.i: was, were, is, are, has, have)
 If the subject is words with every- (ie. Everything, everybody, everyone) or
nobody/somebody, use the singular form of verb [with s]
Everyone is…every walks…
 Beware of the phrases or words which could disguise as subject.
The quality of the educational curricula is improving.
The subject is quality and not the educational curricula, therefore the verb should
take the singular form.
 Rule of Proximity: Whichever subject is nearest to the verb shall be the verb’s form. (ie.
Either the teacher or the students are going to cooperate.)
 Positive and Negative Subject, the verb should always agree with the positive subject:
i.e: The chairman, not the members of the board, receives the check.
Pag ganyan ang format ng sentence, dun lang magbase ng verb sa pinakaunang subject.
 A number of = plural verb [without s]
A number of students protest on the resolution regarding the latin honor qualification.
[Ang basis lang ay “a number of”]
The number of = singular verb [with s]
The number of employee shows the successful passing rate of the exam takers.

Parallelism-gumagana ito sa lahat ng grammatical structure. Dapat kung paano nagsimula ang
isang sentence, phrase, or fragment, dapat ganun din sa lahat at hindi paiba-iba. Parallel dapat
lahat. For example:

I like cooking, dance, singing, and to design. [mali]

I like cooking, dancing, singing, and designing. [tama] pansining kung paanong lahat ng verb ay
natapos sa -ing.
Or pwede ring
I like to cook, to dance, to sing, and to design. [tama] pansinin kung paanong infinitive verb ang
ginamit (may “to”)

 Pag ang subject ay may “ALL” the verb should be without s/verb should be in plural
form.
Example: All of the students are going to the ceremony.
All of them seek assistance.
 Titles or names taken in plural form, is taken as a single unit.
The Lord of the Rings is my favorite.
Wrath of Titans leads as one of the best movie.
 Maging pamilyar rin sa prepositional phrases.
Hang up – Patayan ng tawag
Hang out – gumala, makibonding
Hang on – maghintay

Nagbabago ang hang up pag sinabing:

Call center Agent:
“Sorry, Ma’am if you continue using profanity, I will hang you up.”
Hang you up means ibibigti.
