Let us turn in our Bibles to John chapter 17 for our consecutive Bible reading.
Last week we read John 16 and saw how Jesus warned his disciples about the
coming of persecution and told them of the coming of the Holy Spirit. He ended by
assuring his disciples that he had overcome the world. (40 words)
Today we read chapter 17 and see Jesus prayed for himself that he might be glorified at the
cross and that his glory might be restores to him. He also prayed for the disciples and for
those who would believe through their oral and written word. He prayed for faithfulness
which would give them unity and their joy, this would include all of the believers of this age.
He prayed for their spiritual preservation, sanctification, unification and abode with him. (80

through his disciples. He prayed for their unity and for their final glorification. Since God has
answered Jesus’ prayer, let us continue to be assured of our spiritual protection, unity and

Let us turn in our Bibles to 1 Peter chapter 2 for our consecutive Bible reading.

Last week, we read chapter 1 and we saw Peter’s salutation before worshipping God
for saving mercy. Peter spoke how prophets longed to understand concerning Christ.
He urged us to pursue holiness and love based on Christ and the word. (40 words)

Today we read 1 Peter chapter 2 and we see Peter describing that every person was
born again through incorruptible word of God. He then described the character of
Christ, believers, high priest as living stone. He also imposed the responsibility of
submission upon all believers and particularly upon slaves and wives they should
voluntarily submit themselves to every ordinance of man for Christ’s sake. Finally he
advised the people of God to follow the example set by Christ Jesus. (80 words)

his saving mercy. Peter spoke of how prophets longed to understand about the

Today we read 1 Peter chapter 2 and we see how Peter urged believers to put away
sin and long for pure spiritual milk. As they come to Christ they would be built up into
a spiritual house. He spoke of the uniqueness of God’s people and urged them to
abstain from fleshly passions and to submit to leaders. Finally, he advised his
readers to follow the example of Christ. We, too, should follow Christ’s example in
submitting to leaders. (80 words)
