follicle and hair bulb
Hair shaft

1. Hair shaft is a part of your hair that you can

see, touch and style

2.The primary purpose of the hair shaft is to provide

protection to the scalp. It helps to keep dirt, sweat, and other
debris out of the scalp while simultaneously allowing the
scalp to breathe and receive nutrients.

3.Symptoms of hair shaft disorders are split ends and hair that is
dry, brittle, and coarse, as well as skin and other abnormalities.
The 3 parts of hair shaft

cortex: gives hair its strength and is also

home to melanin granules. These are
packets of pigment that are responsible
for your hair colour.

medulla: Is the innermost layer of

the hair structure consisting of
sparse cells and air bubble.

Cuticle: gives your hair shine and

protects the inner layers from
damage
HAIR FOLLICLE
The function of a hair follicle is to
grow your hair. In addition to
promoting hair growth, your hair
follicles do the following jobs: Help
repair your skin after a wound or an
injury. Form new blood vessels
(angiogenesis)
Why hair follicle can
repair our skin etc.

Hair follicles are complex

miniorgans that reside in
the dermal layer of the
skin. When the skin is
wounded, epidermal stem
cells in the hair follicle
activate and start migrating
into the wound site,
differentiating into
epidermal cells. and
contributing to the
reepithelialization of the
wound
HAIR BULB

The hair bulb has special cells which produce

the pigment that gives hair its colour. The
pigment is called melanin and the cells
producing it are known as melanocytes
The matrix is the part of the hair follicle where matrix
keratinocytes proliferate to form the hair shaft of
growing hair. Melanocytes are mixed amongst the matrix
cells to provide the hair shaft with
Hair dermal papilla cells are specialized
mesenchymal cells that exist in the dermal
papilla located at the bottom of hair follicles.
These cells play pivotal roles in hair formation,
growth, and cycling.
The outer root sheath (ORS) of
hair follicles is a multilayered
tissue made up predominantly
by undifferentiated
keratinocytes (it1, it2) Although
the functions of the ORS cells
for hair growth are not
established, it is known that
the ORS cells can contribute to
the regeneration of the
epidermis, as during healing of

The inner root sheath helps

keep the hair fiber firmly glued
into the scalp. The outer root
sheath (ORS) is continuous with
the skin epidermal layer.
sebaceous gland or oil
gland is a microscopic
exocrine gland in the skin
that opens into a hair
follicle to secrete an oily or
waxy matter, called sebum,
which lubricates the hair
and skin of mammals.
