PROCESS THAT

SHAPE EARTH
SURFACE
WEATHERING
WEATHERING
Is an important
process that help
shapes the earth
surface. The breaking
of rocks result in the
formation of soil and
different landforms.
This is also the
reason why we have
amazing rock
formations.
TYPES OF
WEATHERING
MECHANICAL
WEATHERING
Occurs when there is
only physical change
in rock structure such
as size and Shapes
through physical
forces of nature.
CHEMICAL
WEATHERING
Happens when there
is change in the
composition of
rocks through
chemical processes.
AGENTS OF
WEATHERING
1. WATER - can
break rocks in
different ways. The
strong waves hitting
the rocks can make it
break.
2. WIND - As the
wind blows, it carries
sand or small
particles that scratch
the rock surface.
3. ANIMALS -
Burrowing animals
such as ants,
earthworms, and
moles, Dig their
homes in the soil or
rocks.
4. PLANTS -
Growing roots may
wedge deeply into
the cracks and force
them apart.
This causes the rocks
to crumple into
smaller pieces.
5. TEMPERATURE -
when rocks are
exposed to varrying
temperature, it
expands, if rocks are
exposed to a low
temperature it
contracts.
6. HUMANS - Is also
contributor to
weathering of rocks
such activities may
directly break up
rocks into smaller
pieces or expose
fresh rock surfaces to
further weathering
Processes.
