LEARNING GUIDE
(MIDTERM)
The topics that I learned from the Midterm are the glossary of terms related
to my course. Some of these terms are always used onboard.
Examples:
“The captain gave order to abandon the vessel.”
“The ship was adrifted Eastward with the distance of 5 nautical miles.”
“The captain gave orders to jettison the cargo”
I also learned about the antonym and synonym of some other terms.
Examples:
ANTONYMS:
EMBARK (TO) - To go aboard a vessel
DISEMBARK (TO) - To go from a vessel
DROP BACK - To increase the distance from the vessel ahead by
reducing one's own speed
CLOSE UP (TO) - To decrease the distance to the vessel ahead by
1. What have I
increasing one’s own speed
learned from this
topic?
REPORTED – In navigational warnings: position of object unconfirmed
LOCATED - In navigational warnings: Position of object confirmed
SYNONYMS:
DRAGGING (OF ANCHOR) - Moving of an anchor over the sea bottom
involuntarily because it is no longer preventing the movement of the vessel
DREDGING (OF ANCHOR) - Moving of an anchor over the sea bottom to
control the movement of the vessel.

Example:
I don’t know the terms that are used in onboard ship. The captain gave
orders abandon the vessel, not knowing what the abandon vessel is. I drop
the anchor. So it’s really important to study these terms for a safe
navigating at sea.
