My On-the-Job Training Experience

I.Introduction

On-the-job training is a way for students to learn and experience the actual skills and

knowledge that is needed in a professional environment, it is also a learning curve for the

students in order for them to hone and practice their skills in their chosen field. It provides

direct experience of the actual work environment which can give them many insights and

knowledge regarding how to properly behave in a workplace. It is also an opportunity to gain

applicable skills while in the workplace.

One of the most significant advantages of on-the-job training is its role in sharpening

and broadening the skill set obtained during studying. College classes provide the foundation

of theory, but it is through hands-on experience that students truly understand the complexities

of their chosen area. It also introduces students to practical problems and challenges, promoting

the development of strong problem-solving abilities. Problems are frequently given in a

simplified form in an established academic environment, allowing for simple solutions. The

workplace, however, is unpredictable and concerns are varied. Students learn to assess

complicated issues, think critically, and design practical solutions through on -the-job training.

This capacity to overcome real-world issues is a valuable tool that helps students improve their

overall job marketability. Confidence is also a fundamental aspect in achieving professional

success, and on-the-job training is critical in developing college students' confidence. Students

get a sense of success and self-assurance when they use their theoretical understanding in

practical situations. This practical knowledge helps individuals overcome their initial concerns

about entering the workforce. On-the-job training not just encourages students in their present

position, but it also establishes them as more capable and skilled persons in the eyes of future

employers.

Engaging in on-the-job training for career development is a rewarding and

transforming experience. On-the-job training serves as an experience to be ready in today's

evolving employment landscape, wherein theoretical knowledge integrates with practical

skills, transforming individuals into competent, qualified professionals. This fully immersive

method of learning goes beyond traditional classrooms by providing a real-world environment

wherein learners can not only learn particular skills but also create a mindset sensitive to the

intricacies of the field they have selected. This experience will change students into flexible

and resilient contributors in their chosen fields as they participate in hands-on experiences,

work alongside established professionals, and experience actual challenges.

III. Practicum Experiences

My objective on this OJT was to get a position wherein I could effectively utilize my

critical and analytical skills as a Management Accounting student. With that in mind, I applied

to Luzon Development Bank and my application was accepted.

I started my on-the-job training in Luzon Development Bank on August 14, 2023. Mr.

Joel Iglesias Jr, the Manager gave us a brief explanation regarding my 400-hour

and how the atm machine works and other tasks. With this, I am able to understand the

importance of how the bank operates.

This experience taught me how to be resourceful and flexible on handling and

doing any tasks given. It also made me realize the importance of time management, teamwork

and being adaptable in any situation, especially when working in a bank, even if the transactions

are repetitive, there are still unavoidable situations that will enable us to be flexible and

resourceful in order for us to resolve these situations. We are also able to apply some of the

things we learned at school such as journalizing credit and debit memos and encoding deposit

slips.

As I became an intern, I also had the opportunity to be acquainted with other interns

and employees. Interacting with each other helped us to be more productive and create a

camaraderie that encouraged one another and helped us grow as a person. This will also serve

as a networking that can open opportunities in the future as well as mentorship, career

development, job recommendations and better understanding of the industry.

VI. Impact to Field of Specialization

My on-the-job experience at Luzon Development Bank motivated me to improve

myself and become a better accounting student and determined professional accountant in the

future. It also made me persevere more with my studies in order for me to become an aspiring

professional management accountant in the future.

This internship has a far-reaching impact beyond the classroom, considerably

increasing a student's career preparedness. The practical experience improves a student's

résumé, rendering it more appealing to potential employers. Specific abilities learned during

training distinguish graduates in the workforce market, offering them a competitive advantage.

Furthermore, it gives students crucial networking chances. Interactions with experts an d fellow

trainees establish partnerships that can lead to potential employment opportunities or

mentorship arrangements. The network formed during internship can play an important role in

determining a student's professional path long after the training time has ended.

Thus, On-the-Job Training is an important component in the growth of students of

accounting, closing the gap over theory and practice. OJT educates students for the demands

of the accounting field by practical application, interaction with industry professionals, and

overcoming practical challenges. The influence extends to professional preparedness, as

graduates emerge with not only academic knowledge but also the practical skills and

relationships required for a successful and rewarding career in accounting.

VII. Conclusion

Experiencing an internship at a bank as an accountancy student marked a pivotal

moment in my academic journey. This on-the-job training provided a bridge between

theoretical classroom knowledge and the practical intricacies of the banking environment.

Integrating concepts from accounting I gained a profound understanding of the complexities

inherent in financial management, risk assessment, and compliance within the banking sector.

The dynamic nature of the industry cultivated adaptability and flexibility, with the internship

serving as a platform to hone these skills in response to market fluctuations, regulatory changes,

and evolving customer needs.

With this experience, I felt a sense of accomplishment and it made me feel proud of

my self on what I accomplished during my internship. It also gave me a push to move forward

and reach my goals in life, as I am someone who wants to do and accomplish various things in

life. It gave me a reason to do better in my studies in order to achieve my dream of becoming

a certified management accountant in the future.

As I look back on my on-the-job training, I find myself proud of the accomplishments

and challenges that I accomplished. It was an unforgettable experience that not only improved

my technical skills but also developed in me a strong appreciation for adaptation, teamwork,

and a dedication to continual learning. Thus, on this enriching experience, I am confident that

the lessons learned will not only contribute to my academic success but also provide a solid

foundation for my future career in management accounting.
