Since, God is the Principal Author, the product of His work which is the Bible is free
from error. God will never deceive nor can ever be deceived. He is always be true.
We can be assured, therefore, that the Bible is free from falsehood and error. The
Bible has in it the truth.
• The books of the Bible were written by people from different places and eras or
periods of time.
• The writers did not know each other, but all of the stories, poems, psalms, and
songs written in the Bible speak about one and the same God who loves His people
and saves from the eternal damnation.
• The integrity of the Bible was made possible because the human authors, though
several and diverse in many aspects of life, were inspired by one and the same Holy
Spirit.
• The doctrine of inerrancy of the Bible, as expressed by the Second Vatican
Council, indicates that the books of the Scripture must solidly, faithfully, and
unerringly teach the truth which God wanted put into sacred writings for the sake of
salvation (DV 11).
We always admire a person of integrity. A person of integrity is always honest and
truthful. Who we are and how we live, define our personhood and constitute our
character.

God demands that we always do what is right and always tell the truth no
matter what circumstance is. Jesus said to His disciples, so be perfect, just as
your heavenly Father is perfect, but our Lord exhorts us to strive for perfection
by doing good and avoiding evil. Having a good character make us a better
person and makes our world a better place. Let us make it a rul of thumb that
"Honesty us the best policy."

The basis of the veracity and inerrancy of the Bible is its divine authorship.
Veracity means that the "Sacred Scripture teaches the truth firmly and
faithfully," and inerrancy points out that the "Sacred Scripture teaches the truth
without error" (Belmonte, 1993)

When we deliver a speech or when we write a document, it is very important

that our message is based on facts and truth. It is for this reason that we make
verifiable references to significant places and events. To reinforce our
credibility as speakers or writers, it is a must that we cite our sources and
references. In the Old Testament, we come across several occasions wherein
the prophets strongly use the expression, "Thus says the Lord" when they are
conveying the message from God. It is their authoritative way of speaking as
the "mouthpiece of God". In the New Testament, Jesus Christ always quoted
the Scripture: "It is written…" as He taught with authority. It is not because
Jesus derives the veracity of His preaching and teachings from the prophets of
old, but rather from the very word of God contained in the Law of Moses and
in the Book of Prophets.

LESSON 5: THE CREATION OF THE WORLD

The Creation

In the beginning when God created the heavens and the

earth, the earth was a formless void and darkness
covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God
swept over the face of the waters. (1) Then God said,
"Let there be light;" and there was light. And God saw
that the light was good; and God separated the light from
the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness
he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.

And God said, "Let there be a dome in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the
waters from the waters." So God made the dome and separated the waters that were
under the dome from the waters that were above the dome. (2) And it was so. God
called the dome Sky. And there was evening and there was morning, the second
day.

And God said, "Let the waters under the sky be gathered together into one place,
and let the dry land appear." And it was so. God called the dry land Earth, and the
waters that were gathered together he called Seas. And God saw that it was good.
Then God said, "Let the earth put forth vegetation: plants yielding seed, and fruit
trees of every kind on earth that bear fruit with the seed in it." And it was so. The
earth brought forth vegetation: plants yielding seed of every kind, and trees of every
kind bearing fruit with the seed in it. And God saw that it was good. And there was
evening and there was morning, the third day.

And God said, "Let there be lights in the dome of the sky to separate the day from the
night; and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years, (3) and let
them be lights in the dome of the sky to give light upon the earth." And it was so. God
made the two great lights-the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule
the night-and the stars. God set them in the dome of the sky to give light upon the
earth, to rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the light from the
darkness. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening and there was
morning, the fourth day.

And God said, "Let the waters bring forth swarms of living creatures and let birds fly
above the earth across the dome of the sky." So God created the great sea monsters
and every living creature that moves, of every kind, with which the waters swarm, and
every winged bird of every kind. And God saw that it was good. God blessed them,
saying, "Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply
on the earth." And there was evening and there was morning, the fifth day.

And God said, "Let the earth bring forth living creatures of every kind: cattle and
creeping things and wild animals of the earth of every kind." And it was so. God
made the wild animals of the earth of every kind, and the cattle of every kind, and
everything that creeps upon the ground of every kind. And God saw that it was good.
Then God said, "Let us make humankind in our image, (4) according to our likeness;
and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air and
over the cattle, and over all the wild animals of the earth, and over every creeping
thing that creeps upon the earth."

So God created humankind in his image,

in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them. (5) God blessed them, and God said to them, "Be
fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish
of the sea and over the birds of the air and over every living thing that moves upon
the earth." God said, "See, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is upon the
face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit; you shall have them for food.
And to every beast of the earth, and to every bird of the air, and to everything that
creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green
plant for food." (6) And it was so. God saw everything that he had made, and indeed,
it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.

Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all their multitude. And on the
seventh day God finished the work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh
day from all the work that he had done. So God blessed the seventh day and
hallowed it, because on it God rested from all the work that he had done in creation.
These are the generations of the heavens and the earth when they were created.

LESSON 5: THE CREATION OF ADAM and

EVE

Adam and Eve

4
This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created, when
the LORD God made the earth and the heavens.

5
Now no shrub had yet appeared on the earth and no plant had yet sprung up, for
[a]

the LORD God had not sent rain on the earth and there was no one to work the
ground, 6 but streams came up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the
[b]

ground. 7 Then the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and
[c]

breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.

8
Now the LORD God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the
man he had formed. 9 The LORD God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—
trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden
were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

10
A river watering the garden flowed from Eden; from there it was separated into four
headwaters. 11 The name of the first is the Pishon; it winds through the entire land of
Havilah, where there is gold. 12 (The gold of that land is good; aromatic resin and
[d]

onyx are also there.) 13 The name of the second river is the Gihon; it winds through
the entire land of Cush. 14 The name of the third river is the Tigris; it runs along the
[e]

east side of Ashur. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.

15
The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take
care of it. 16 And the LORD God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any
tree in the garden; 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good
and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”

18
The LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper
suitable for him.”

19
Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the wild animals and all the
birds in the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and
whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So the man gave
names to all the livestock, the birds in the sky and all the wild animals.

But for Adam no suitable helper was found. 21 So the LORD God caused the man to
[f]

fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and[g]

then closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the LORD God made a woman from the
rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.“This is now bone of
[h]

my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called ‘woman,’
for she was taken out of man.”
That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they
24

become one flesh.

25
Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.
